starter motor

300 GDL 1989. 5 cyl diesel...the starter motor is not turning the flywheel. it just sends out a humming noise...it's been diagnosed as having a faulty bendix.

if i keep trying to start then it does so eventuallyt but only after 6 or 7 tries

what is the best way of getting it sorted.

by Bendix they mean its probably the splined head on the starter motor. Take it off and have a look, replace or refurbish or advertise in the parts section for one, not cheap, had one refurbished for a 280ge a few years back by a Bosch dealer and it would have cost no more for a new one. Access is fiddly as well.
