G Class now on the MB UK Website
Popped into Brooklands on Saturday and was talking to someone about a RHD G Class. Mercedes are now offering the RHD G on their Website, link below:
http://www2.mercedes-benz.co.uk/content/unitedkingdom/mpc/mpc_unitedking...
The cars are available through the Export and Diplomatic division (mentioned previously) or though the Maybach team in Brooklands. Only model available at the moment will be the G55 AMG, but further models may follow.
As far as I know that has always been on the diplomatic website.
But I did noticed that they still own the domain www.g-wagon.co.uk although it has been parked for the last four or five years.
This is great news but also a bit sad. Sad because it's been out of MBUK portfolio for 14 years (!) but also because if you go to the "New Cars" menu it does not feature there. You have to choose "Export and Diplomatic Sales" in the "New Cars" menu and only then you see the G-Class. A bit pathetic if you ask me....
well was down at MB Brooklands yesterday and as Modificata has said the RHD G will be on offer about september - the following variants; AMG (463)and the 350 (460 and 463).
They will be getting two at the end of June for demo purposes, the idea being you can test drive them and then chose your spec. The Guy who will be running this is Nigel Unsworth, and frankly has only the Sales bull**it and does not really understand that there is a hardcore following in the UK for the G in the form of the GWOA
I get the impression that they are still on the learning curve, BUT he does know not to compare it with the RR or LR. He is off to Gratz to have the corporate brief on the 27 of Jan.
I am in the week after next and he has promised to buy me a cup of tea, mainly as in conversation I mentioned that I was part of the GWOA - which he was surprised about and that there was a following.
So I will have a chat with him when I am down and post any news here. If there are any questions you would like me to ask (except price ATM) either PM me or post. There will be limited numbers available this year but it should be rolled out to all the main Merc dealers throughout the UK.
More as it happens

Also it might have been absent for years but that was due to poor rhd sales. Since then the interest in the car has got stronger and the rhd interest is back. I would suggest that rather than being annoyed you should applaude mercedes for a sensible decision.
Relax, please! I lived in the UK from 1998 to 2005, a time when there was no interest whatsoever by MBUK in marketing a car whose production was all but sold before it was made. At the time we at the GWOA thought that the poor sales experienced hitherto was a consequence of no more of MBUK disinterest in marketing something which for them was no more than a truck. The poor sales were a consequence of MBUK apathy and not the other way around.
It really makes me mad to see that only when the G-Wagen has achieved cult status in the USA has MBUK awaken to the fact thay it would be a great product to sell in the UK.
And just to clarify: yes! I do applaud the decision and trust that we will see many more new Gs in ther UK from now on.
A bit more info on the RHD G. The car will officially be sold in the UK from September this year in RHD form. They will only be sold by MB Brooklands by the Specialist Products team (Maybach, SLR, AMG Black Etc). The cars will be official UK cars and so will presumably be available to Finance options etc.
The UK will receive 2 demonstrators in March/April in LHD. One should be a G55 and the other a G350 I think. The range of G's will be available in the UK, so probably add the G500 and maybe other engine options too.
The RHD will not attract a premium as is currently the case. Currently the RHD cars are completed in LHD and then sent to AMG to be re-built as RHD. These will be factory RHD.
Prices are to be available in a couple of months. Expect prices to be the same or less than the European prices.
Thats all for now but will keep you posted.
