Hi,

After along time of messing about thinking it was my heater blowing the fuse then the automatic it turns out it is the kickdown switch.

As soon as I apply pressure to it it blows the fuse. Is there way to fix this or replace it? is it dangerous at all?

Many thanks
Joe

As an interim, disconnect the kickdown switch. Since you drive a gas guzzler, I would have assumed your driving style would avoid a "kick down" use situation, hence, you could live without replacing the kickdown.

Should a dire need occur where a "kick down" gearing is required, you could CAREFULLY, engage manually, a lower gear by the selector, acclerate and shift up again, into "Drive". DAMAGE WILL OCCUR if you mis select!

Or, your only alternative is to replace your kick down switch. DO check the norm, such like, cable connections are not damaged or shorted to keep blowing your fuse.

cheers,

Well that's different,

There is no damage occurring manually shifting down, just don't do anything silly like shifting down from high revs or speeds, just the sort of things you would not be doing to a manual transmission.

If you have hills and the like, you probably be scraping the ground now and then, in which case do check the wiring condition to the k/down switch.

Dis-connect the connection at the k/down switch, connect an ohm meter to the disconnected wires, get an assistant to press the acclerator to k/down, if the wires are not shorted the ohm meter will register only when the k/down at the acclerator is activated. Otherwise, replace the k/down switch.

Cheers,

Excellent so just to check again it is safe if I change the gears like I wud on a
manual car?
