(Click on 9th video "840KB 93,3sec Salt water")

Also a quotation from the US BenzWorld forum:

I've seen a video recording of a URO being driven into 1.50 meters of water, turn off the engine, leave the car in the water for 1 hour, go back in, start the car and drive out... IMPRESSIVE. .....

¿Where have you seen this video?
¿Is it available somewhere in the internet?

Cheers

What an awesome truck that is. Shame they don't make a smaller version, or do they?
Would be interesting to see the G developed towards those ends rather then bloated with electrical goodies no one seems to want..

I used to own a fleet of 17 ton and 7.5 ton trucks, they were mostly Mercedes, then I added two 17 ton Steyers. They were fantastic wagens, excellent build quality, the drivers loved them and the fuel consumption was unbelievably good. These vehicles were so good in fact, that as far as I can recall, MAN bought the UK importer of the Steyers and promptly stopped importing them!

They must have bought a lifetime concession, because as far as I know Steyer have never been seen in the UK since. It's a shame because they really were excellent trucks.

The artic tractor units were ugly bu-----s mind you!

No, unfortunately they don't make it smaller. Fact is that it is hand-made in very small numbers, mainly for the Spanish army for whom it was developed entirely in Spain. Despite the looks it has absolutely nothing to do with the Hummer (thank goodness!).

The funny thing is that I read that the Spanish army would like to replace it ageing Land-Rover Santanas and Nissan Patrols with these but due to budget restrictions they cannot buy many in one year given their € 60,000 (40k) price tag. If they knew how much is the British army paying for their Defenders!

As a curiosity, the price list of the German importer:

It's very difficult to say because of the wealth of special equipments, armouring, etc, but I believe that, on average, i.e. dividing the total value of the contract with LR between the numbers of units supplied, the cost exceeds well over £ 40,000.

Which I guess makes the Vamtac look like enormous value for money.

I think your maths have over-simplified it a little Jesus....There are a few other factors left out of the equation, which, if included, would bring the unit price down a little from what you suggest. Though, undoubtedly, military specification vehicles are always going to be more expensive than their direct civilian equivalant. The Land Rover "Truck Utility Medium" (One Ten HS model) and the "Truck Utility Light" (Ninety HS) - sometimes erroneously referred to as Land Rover "Wolf" - are significanly different to the civil versions, despite an obvious, but only skin-deep resemblance. I believe, in NATO parlance, at least, "Wolf" is actually a G-wagen 3.4metre wheelbased vehicle, but I could be wrong.

With reference to Steyr Trucks, I understand that MAN actually liked the product so much, they bought the whole thing from Steyr some years ago. Just as Steyr Tractors went to somebody else - can't remember who - possibly International, but not sure. Both Steyr Trucks and Tractors are still marketed by their respective owners. In the US forces the trucks are more generally known as "Stewart & Stephensons". (Spelling could be wrong too)

Quite an interesting vehicle, that URO, but I'm afraid the Pinzgauer still does it for me.
Wot! Me biased?

And also for me.... with all the respect that I have for the Vamtac, I think that it is too big and wide to maneouvre in the greenlanes of the old continent where the Pinzgauer is the king!
