Hi, My 300G has gone through a new battery in 2 weeks. I can't diagnose the problem myself - and I certainly couldn't fix it. The car has a Toad Thatcham alarm system fitted that needs to be professionally disarmed. What I need is a mobile auto electrician in the Newton Abbot/Torquay area. Does anyone know a good one? Thanks - whilma

Hi When you say its "gone through" do you mean destroyed or discharged.both problems could be the result of a faulty regulator on the alternator.. get a fully charged battery and with everything switched off remove the positive terminal on the battery and gently touch the terminal back onto the battery post ..it there is a spark then something is causing the battery to discharge.if no spark then chances are it is the regulator.....best I can do from this far away.....

Many thanks - wish I'd known to do that when I replaced the battery. I wish the local mechanic had known to do that! I thought at the time that it was something more than a light left on or faulty alarm. The new battery is discharged, rather than destroyed.

If you can get some kind of charge indicator onto the battery the first thing to do is remove the fuses one by one and see which one causes the discharge to stop. This will at least pin-point the problem to a single circuit. Can do this without is connecting the battery so hopefully the alarm can remain armed.

Might it still be the alternator though Fixwin i.e. rather than something discharging the battery, it's just not being recharged properly? Heaters etc working hard this time of year.
