Love the bit where he’s so pleased with his £1.99 D shackle.

And who said Discovery’s were fragile

errrrr, while I don't possess the necessary skills as portrayed on this video, may I ask the following?

What is a kinetic Rope?
Is that the correct way to connect two kinetic ropes together?
When winching in the first instance, surely one would stop winching when the tension moved the winching vehicle?
Why was no one injured?

Although I do believe that Christo is somewhere in the background as those green sand ladders look very familiar!

A kinetic rope I believe comes from a method developed to recover tanks.
It’s a bit like a bungy cord. You leave it slack and then accelerate away in the recovery vehicle taking up the slack and then some stretch. The stretch stores the kinetic energy and multiplies up the pulling power. Lets say the recovery vehicle weighs 2 tonnes, this can be multiplied up to maybe 12 tonnes of pulling power. Highly dangerous in the wrong hands, potentially lethal.

“Is that the correct way to connect two kinetic ropes together?”
Ah that’s a definite no

“Why was no one injured?”
But they were, all had previously been battered around the head with £1.99 D shackles

I have seen this done with a chain !, at an AWDC event 20 years ago, range rover was well stuck, guy did the same, "take a run up approach" it ripped the tow hitch off and the lot went through back window, ripped passenger headrest off and exited out front window, the girl in the passenger seat had got out earlier, if she hadn't she would be walking around without a head now!. What a bunch off twats !

These guys watch an episode of Top Gear (the polar special) and it gives these Muleing Cabbages the belief that they can do what the Nordic professionals do every day (with training I presume).

When someone loses a limb or a life, there will be tighter regulations imposed on Offroading.

Look at the video again and then, click on "more videos by this user" complete and utter tossers!

OK - while I see the benefit of using it on a tank, is anything goes wrong i doubt a D hook or anything would penetrate the armour! Mind you I do keep forgetting that LR are impregnable in the right hands!

Thanks Russ, although I think I may have seen some future candidates for the Darwin Awards!

Peter P - When you 'aided' me to get out the Clay at Shayns PLace - is that what you had?

Re: Lesson in How to Carryout a Kinetic Recovery

I just got back, so only read this now.

K ropes can be very handy in the right hands, I have used them a lot in sand, but never trusted it. I much rather use some sand ladders and a high lift jack.

I do however think spider should get one of these and preferably at least 2 of those shackles, when that big heavy V8 gets stuck, it is like recovering a tank in any case. If it doesn't get out, hopefully one of the shackles will hit him on that stubborn head of his and convince him to get a diesel!
