The G had an argument with a deer a couple of days ago. Not suprisingly, the G only suffered minor damage, although the repair of the slightly bent front bumper and a little paint work on the wheel arch have been quoted at almost £1k! (for insurance). Also, I was on my way to get new tryes fitted, so I had to stop and send a considerable amont of time washing off the blood and guts before going to the fitting garage. When I got home the dogs were very interested in the underside of the car, now licked clean.....yum.

But the main point of this post is I spent some time looking at this and can it be avoided and found this "The deer whistle". Link Below. The device mounts to the front of your car that emits a high frequency noise that scares the deer (and other animals) and stops then from jumping out into the road. It is type of whistle that works by the air flowing through it as you drive along, it starts making an effective noise at +35 mph.

It may not be relavent to the city drivers but if you spend any time driving at dawn, dusk or night on country roads, I would say it looks like £8 well spent. I have ordered them for my cars.

Re: Deer Whistle

Hi I recall being overtaken by a Volvo with one of these fitted. hearing the noise approaching had me looking for a shadow passing overhead with wings and a 100.000lbs of thrust.. as for deer at least it will make them duck......

Re: Deer Whistle

I have also had the occasional deer bonnet mascot, not much fun and as you said very messy.
I wonder if the whistle works on all the other little nocturnal balls of fur and feather that seem attracted to the front of my G.
Thanks for the link , will give it a try.

Random picture of car v deer for those of you who may not appreciate the dangers faced by us Highlanders from roving gangs of suicidal deer.

Re: Deer Whistle

The knackered bearing in my air condtioning compressor should have the same effect, it makes enough noise anyways

Re: Deer Whistle

If it makes deer duck, perhaps u could shoot them before they hit the car then serve a l'orange, or maybe they could just fly over the top?

Re: Deer Whistle

Around where I live I don't use a whistle, more a bang, and it sounds a lot like a 30-06.
