Re: This is difficult to look at!

Ya do a search of the forums - there was a lengthy discussion on the shot up G. It was advertised for sale in the US!

That burnt out one is a newish model- at least less than a 1000 days old judging by rims and spare cover.

I have seen my fare amount of shotup cars and those are big holes. Very Big holes. A AK 7.62* 39 or a FN 7.62*54 doesnt even make big holes like that.

Did you meant 7.62x51 NATO?

That might be caused by 7.92x57 mauser? 7.62 x 54R or .50 browning?

.50 cal browning? LOL That is some serious firepower! Looks more like .30 cal - thought it looks like numerous type of caliber has hit that G.

and it was a 500

So he is used to hearing the promise that they will fire the SA80 5.56MM (if the government let them have the budget)

I still say they are .30 cal.

Re: This is difficult to look at!

I said it before, small arms and shrapnel. I can not say what they are from here. Remember a puny little cal. like a 9mm P will make bigger holes in a car then than 30 cal machine gun.

If it was military the bullet holes would all be perfect round, but these are far from, so I say it's not all bullets.

I'll have a bit of a dig and see if I can get some pic's of a Cruiser pick up whose driver survived more than that and drives G's today. (Only wound was in the calf by a small piece of shrapnel)

Re: This is difficult to look at!

I have been having some chats with some 'customers' they recon its 12 or 14G slug shot from a shot gun - Possibly rifled rounds that 'squash' on impact.

Initial thoughts were 20MM or 14MM - but they would leave very nasty exit holes.

The initial thoughts were;
Front 9mm and maybe 5,56
Side 7.62 and some .45
Back 12 or 14G Rifled slug shots

Hope that helps

hmmm, couldn't be 20mm or 14mm for sure... a WW2 Luftwaffe research indicated that 3-5 rounds or 20mm could bring down a B-17. Plus the fact that 20mm round could disable, if not destory a T-34 from the top. As you said... they are nasty things :S

If the shooting happened in the US, I think .40, .45, 5.56 and 9mm would be reasonable guesses.

Re: This is difficult to look at!

I know this a little off topic but I'm asking it anyway......
Maxwell I notice in your bio now you list vehicle as a "taxi cab" did you sell your 300TD?

Oh, and I thought the rear shots were holes from a 9mm (small ones) and shotgun slugs as opposed to multigrain.

Regards,

Mike

...I really was going to sit this one out... but I actually AM a member of the NRA 8) and believe it or not, even a S&W 500 (in the right grain/bullet shape) could put holes like that in sheet metal, depending on the distance from target (even the bigger holes). Of course, in the situation pictured you'd need at least 100+ guys shooting since each one would have to stop after unloading their five chambers... I'm not a small guy but five rounds of my .500 and my shooting hand swells up, without fail! ...definitely not enough energy for a second set

Re: This is difficult to look at!

Bahahaha.. you're right marcus, the Hornady .17 is a NASTY little cartridge... I know some home-loaders who've packed them so heavy they'll reach 2900 ft/s with home-made LEAD! Bullet's a bit small to make such a big hole, though, but it'll definitely knock most four legged game down. Heh!

I don't think any of the holes are from a 9mm... given the speed etc of most commercially available 9mm cartridges in the US (9mm luger parabellum), I think they'd punch smaller holes... and this is probably not machine gun fire as very few shoot-em-uppers would have the control required to shoot a semi-auto machine gun properly enough at close range (as you boys know it's not as easy to shoot as they show in the movies!)... while a .50 Browning would... um... result in a hole the size of a grapefruit, maybe! (Cool!) :D

All this talk... bringing a tear to my eye.

...and before anyone says so, I obviously do not approve of silly people-shooting/assasination/gun violence. I am not a crazy militia hick... I simply believe in the right of responsible citizens to bear arms. If/when I do hunt (which is very rarely nowadays, now that I'm living in the UK... and no, I don't consider shooting things with shotguns REAL hunting 8) ), I eat everything I may have killed out of respect for the animal (my, that does sound a bit weird). What I mean to say is that I don't kill merely "for the sport of it."

In fact, most of my guns are used only for relaxing and clearing my mind and improving my marksmanship at my local "home" gun range... which happens to be the one in the basement of the NRA headquarters. I once finished a clip, only to find Mr Heston in the lane next to me. He asked if he could try my gunsmithed pieces and he shot 2 clips off of my own M9 and Beretta 92 pair... 1.5 inch groupings at 30 yards! What a legend! :o

1.5 inch at 30 yards with a M9!!! That's crazy good!! To be honest I haven't done any grouping with a pistol before... all I have done was shooting those pop-up green man-shaped targets. Got 86 out of 6 full mags in 15-45m ;)

I agree with your analysis about the holes are not caused by fully automatic weapons... otherwise the surface of the G would look rather like a teenage boy's face.

Much respect to you, marcus! A member of the "terminated sight" club... I have yet to join you, although I almost took a rogue removable picatinny rail to the face when a friend of mine who didnt service his model 686 .38 special properly squeezed off a few (lackadaisical in gun maintenance; shameful ba$tard).

400 quick rounds of Browning HP... lucky guy!
