Window Switch
I know this isnt a g, but its still a little 190e, and the longer this lasts, the more i can save towards my G
Basically the switch for my front window has gone a bit funky, it won't go down, it will go up, i can hear the motor clicking when i press the button (the normal sound) but it feels like the switch has sunken into the console an i can now no longer put the window down.
i may have mastered ticket barriers (lean back and go through the back window) but its getting annoying now especially mixed with long hospital days and dark afternoons.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Tom
Hi Tom firstly the switch is held in position in a plastic carrier attached to the underside of the console..just a push fit..the console must be unscrewed and the switch pressed back into the carrier.....as for the window..the spiral drive that passes through the motor gets rusty where it sits along the bottom of the door..more so if the door drains are blocked.remove the door card and unclip the plastic tube that carries the drive above the motor and apply liberal quantities of WD 40 down the tube and all around the metal guide that the drive travels in....operate the window up and down until it works properly and then lubricate all with engine oil (not synthetic) activate until satisfied ..replace door card after cleaning the drains and wiping clean the bottom of the inner door frame....should be good for another **** years.....
thank you very much for your help. the switch itself seems to have gone kaput, so i swapped it with the one for the passenger rear window that hasn't worked since i got the car and hey presto i now have a working front window.
thanks again.

You can dismantle the switches and clean up any burnt contacts if you are VERY careful. There are springs in there so be prepared to loose bits never to be seen again
