With the engine running what is an acceptable amount of rotation on the steering wheel (460) before anything happens?

I'd say mine moves 10mm before anything happen?

- trying to asses if my steering box is ready for adjustment (can't feel any movement in any of the joints).

Anybody?

Re: Steering??

10mm sounds fine. Mine probably still moves at least that much and I had the steering box reconditioned earlier this year.

....I'm also getting some knocking through the steering when on hard rutted tracks? had the column out, cleaned, regreased....just the same??

But feels great on the road (well doesn't knock).

i had the same problem
even tried out my friend's steering shaft (lower one, connecting to the steering box)

just yesterday found out that on the upper shaft (connecting the lower shaft to the steering wheel) has two small wheel bearing, one in each end. both needed replacing. cheap parts, extensive labor as you would need to pull out the whole shaft. part number is A 126 981 00 25

i have yet to go through rough condition, but upon quick test the steering feels much tighter, if it makes any sense
