The dashboard lights for my diff locks don't light up when diffs are engaged, I know for sure that the locks are working, could it be blown bulbs a fuse somewhere other than on the fuse board, cos they are all okay, or is there a switch on the cylinder that may not be working.

Has anyone any suggestions please.

obvious route is to check bulbs first, then wiring down to slave cylinder, take wires off and clean and smother with vaseline

Thanks Peter,

One other thing, I have found a double brown wire with a bare spade connector that is loose at the back of the instrument panel, there is another one like it attached to spade on the back of the speedo. There is also a blue with red stripe and plastic sleeved spade loose.

I have tried to find any likely candidates on wiring diagram but I'm not very good at reading them - any suggestions?

a brown wire is normally a live, have you got a multi tester, if not get down to maplins and buy one for 5 pounds. You can test the brown wire to see if its live. I will look at the wirring diagram to see what it is

Got to disagree there Ian, a brown wire on a merc is usually earth.

Definetly get a multimeter though analogue not digital

Thanks very much for your help guys, discovered that the lights came on intermittantly, a good clean up of the connectins and a spray of WD40 sorted it. Thanks also for the suggestions on the two loose wires but I haven't had time to investigate that any further.

I'll get a multimeter asap, not sure where, out here in the sticks.

Anyone know what the blue with red stripe might be?
