Hi!

Bad bad news... I have just received a €10 parking ticket this morning. I was using the Audi, which is still on GB plate... would I get in trouble if I don't pay this €10??

€10??????

You probably won't get followed up... however for the price of €10....

A friend got a ticket in the Netherlands many many years ago while driving and avoided it. About five years later he flew into Schiphol Airport and when he went through immigration they took his passport and told him he wasn't allowed to leave the airport until he paid the ticket plus accumulated charges....

Would suggest that at 10 euro, pay it - this does happen very frequently. I too had a friend travelling with me who they did the same - 2 years accumulation was 1,500 euro fine - he had to pay it there and then - otherwise to gaol. And with his good looks as good as yours, he would have been passed around like currency!

Holland, Denmark, Spain for example have much nicer jails than ours so if its one of those countries take the chance. If its former Iron Curtain whilst their prisons are unpleasant the chances of them catching you must be close to zero. To hedge your bets appeal the fine or send it back not known at this address. The threat of Jail is just that, a threat, Article 8 of the European Human Rights Act applies, due process, oppressive rules, proportionate punishment etc.
