Pre-purchase guidance. Questions, questions LOL
I've come to a few conclusions about the way I am going with my G. New parts have arrived and a colour choice has been made.
New trim is ready to fit (lights, badges, mirrors, vents, reflectors, rubbers etc) and I have opted for Ford 'Morello' red which is a kind of black over cherry colour.
I've decided the Porsche BBS rims on my G have to go - they just don't do it for me
Here is a photoshopped version of what I hope to turn it into. Basically specced like a 'Pur' but based around a 280GE. I'd love the split rear door but don't know how big a job that might be.
Anyway after looking at wheels from ORC at stupid prices  and the options available in Porsche 5x130 fitment I have decided to go with PCD adapters to fit Land Rover wheels.
As much as this goes against the grain (I would much prefer to fit something wide and german) it seems the most cost effective way to get wide rims on a G with a choice in style.
I'm looking at modulars 10" wide as I will be using it offroad and like the option to do so at will, rather than swapping wheels each time.
So here are the questions;
1)What's the best/largest and practical wheel/tyre size 15/16" and on a standard 280GE with the 25mm PCD adapters what should I expect in terms of performance and clearance issues? Is 15/16"x10J just silly?
I would like to go monster but appreciate that may be to the detriment of economy, on-road grip and body rubbing so concessions to body lift/springs and rolling radius would be better looked at before I buy. It will be a regularly used vehicle.
2) I'd love the split rear door but don't know how big a job that might be. Any ideas? I guess hinge location is the big issue.
3) How hard is it to fit 463 style rear lights? I need to replace the rear quarter panels anyway but what else is involved?
Any help appreciated.
You don't need to change quarter panels to fit 463 tail lights but you do need to do some mods. Also it would be a challenge to put on 463 panels anyhow as the fuel filler is in different locations...
G funk, way to go man!!
that pur looks the biznis. look forward to seeing the end results.
btw, all the stuff about body =work fabrication is a piece of cake here in n cyprus and ridiculously cheap to get done in turkey
i can also suggest going to north london area[turkish community area] . you will find great bodyshops there,,,
good luck mate. if your G ends up looking even half that pur your on to a winner!
About 1.q:
For alternative, you can search about beadlocks. Little bit about it my topic about wheels.
If you are more interested in offroading, not G wheel style... :)
I know that one professional in my county use something to push air from tire automatcily before goes in swamp and when he is out, he pushes back centrally with automatic air pump. He is experienced, one of Latvian best offroaders builders, didn`t ask how he done it... :) But anyway I have lot to do to my G before think about that... :)
How I understand you can put big wheels, but you limit max speed and will eat more fuel... :)
About big wheels, many says its better grip, but of course question what road and tires is for...
2.q.: How I understand, you can buy split rear doors and give professional to fit it... :) Btw, why you want to split it?
Jealous of your spending on the G, :( but think the colour is a great choice. 8)

G FUNK, i am sorry to hear this mate !!
What is involved in modifying the panel then?
I'm just a little wary about which repair panels to buy - the combination of split door conversion (if possible) and rear light upgrade is a headache
