random discovery...
I was doing some random search on the internet just now, very shocked to find that Porsche Cayenne are not that expensive at all!!! ... I knew they were not as expensive as the Gs, but what I saw on autotrader was a total brain storm!
15k for a cayenne s, which is a steal really, its just the servicing etc that costs. i know people say they are hideous but ever since i drove one i've had a soft spot for them. dont go for the 6 cylinder its hopeless though

If you are thinking of buying one for off road use, my advice would be to make sure it is the steel spring option rather than the air sprung version.
I have the 4.5S with the optional air suspension and have blown two sets of air springs £800 each or £2000 a side for the full strut and air bladder. There are no after market options available although the VW Touareg and Audi Q7 versions will fit at a slightly reduced cost. However the part numbers are different so there could be warranty issues.
If you fit the right tyres then the Cayenne is pretty cabable off road although as with all 4x4s at this end of the market when you start getting a bit serious off road things get broken and it all gets a bit expensive. It will go through a set of BFGs in 8000 miles on the road.
As far as used prices go I sold my last Cayenne 4.5S with 112,000 miles and some off road battle scars for £9k. It was a 53 plate and cost £46K new. Thats a loss of £37k over 4 years or the price of a cheap G55K.
If I had not used it off road it would have been worth around £6k more so I suppose that works out at around £1500 a year to use it off road plus repairs.
My own view would be that you can probably have more fun in a G with a lot less cost and I have. The problem is when I do something in the G I always wonder if the Cayenne could do that, hence the blown air suspension !!!
my mates just bought a 55 plate toureg tdi for £8000
Nahhhhh, i am not thinking about buying one. I had a look at them only because my friends kept asking me why didn't i buy one of those but a G, but I guess they don't even know what a G is...
Thank you for the information tho!
