petrol pump noise and starting failure
My 1983 230ge failed to start this morning. It is always instant, so I am surprised.
The engine was not turning over and when I checked there is a noise from rear petrol pump, under the tank, this seems to be the culprit? Does this need to be replaced? any advice appreciated. Can I tow start this if needs be
My garage is 20miles away. and electrics are not my favourite.
Hi your battery or battery connections are possibly the problem. the fuel pump can make odd noises if the battery is flat....

From your statement above, you claim the engine is not turning over, Given that, I would say your starter motor or poor connections to its circuit is the culpret. If your vehicle is a manual transmission, then you should be able to tow start.
Starter motors are prone to dead spots and poor connections at about the 70000 to 80000 miles mark. Check battery connections, earth connections, starter connections. The solonoid, can failure too. All these do need checking.
Cheers,
Did think of that after I posted, as it was cold here today, Had it a couple of years, so will get it checked. My battery charger shorted out last week, bought a new one and it doesn't work?? my mate Murphey again ?timing always perfect!! :?
