ABS SENSORS, how to remove/check?
Recently the ABS light has been coming on whenever I went over a bumpy bit of road, though I could reset it turning the switch on and off and it would be fine untill the next rough bit of road. I have looked around and the back sensor looks like the lead that is attached to it looks dodgy also the rubber insulation cracked on one of the front wheels? Any suggestions on testing, removal etc?
Hi Jason,
Hope all's well up in the peaks. I recall removing the front sensors when doing the pads, and reusing them even though one was slightly worn (the plastic bit was worn showing the metal wire, which I guess lights up the brake pad wear indicator when it gets too close to the disc). I'm not sure if it would cause the ABS light to come on.
The following post might illustrate the sensor position within the pad, if you wanted to remove/inspect it:

If you look up the price of a new one that might encourage (or discourage!) you to try removing the old one. I am sure others will come out of the woodwork...
Hi The exposed parts of the ABS are more prone to failure....the rear axle sensors are mounted on top of the axle tube behind the rear brake backplate...they push into a sleeve and are held in place with a single bolt fixing to the side of the body where the wires enter the head...these wires can decay and corrode so it is the first place to look...it is a 4 pole system on the G' any one sensor not working will show up on the dash warning light....a good place to start....if you let me have yr Email I will send some pics......
Hi M2dxd,
I 've got a feeling rear sensor might have got strained during a spring change, looks like it is held in place by one hexagon bolt all covered in rust. Some what scared in case it shears off. I can't beleive I am the only 463 owner to have this problem!
