transfer box
I'm really having a problem finding a replacement transfer box for my 300 GEL AUTO long wheel base. A new one will be £3,000 + £1,000 to fit!!
My first thought was to find a reconditioned one, and so far my search has been pretty fruitless....
Does anyone have an idea of what to do now?
I don't think that you have much hope of finding one laying around as there are very few 463s which have been dismantled in the UK. You might find one in Germany.
The best thing would be to get your one rebuilt at a gearbox specialist place. Naturally, it depends on what condition it is in, but MB would be able to supply the parts.
I am would think that parts are available via MB. You need to have a look at the EPC.
What's EPC?
EPC is Electronic Parts Catalouge, this, you can subscribe to, on Mercedes Benz's "service and parts.net" portal.
I am not sure, but you can buy CD discs of the catalouge and lastly, your local M/B dealer uses this, but he will only use it for the purpose of selling parts, not to provide information.

Thanks Roly. www.G-wagen.co.uk emailed back (the only one) with a transfer box @ £750, as part exchange. Says it's from one of theirs & in working order.
Once I've checked the part No. for compatibility, I think that will be the way forward. My one apparently is too far gone inside, with some of the parts unavailable - you'd think that wouldn't be a problem, but I'm going by the transmission specialist.
