Cause iffen it did ( or even on a wee tank of Dino diesel) I could fit one to the 460 to pre warm the fuel

Re: Will an Eberspracher run on Soy oil?

Hi Marcus The cold weather problem with veggie/soya oil is lagging the plumbing between the heated oil in the tank and the engine. both fluids gel in the pipes which gives you the same symptoms as an airlock...adding fossil fuels to either fluid curdles the fluid with the same results. ideally running insulated plumbing from the tank to the injector pump and the return line to the tank should cope with the average frosts but above minus 6c may not work...parked in a warm shed would keep it flowing but you may have to route your plumbing close to the exhaust to stop the fluid turning to gel on the road. rgds Peter

Absolutely not! The injectors are too fine on it... even with only 5-10% veggie oil in the tank you will likely have problems with it...

Cheers Guys,
By the time I would build a warm shed, it might be cheaper to run her on dino diesel.
Peter,
How is the diesel in the tank "warm"
Do I understand that it, that it will only normally get cold enough with "wind chill" when driving, as opposed to sitting in windswept a car park during daylight hours, this assuming parked under cover at night.
Other than a Canadian type plug in heating system, for the engine coolant.
But how do i heat the fuel tank?, i appreciate its thick plastic so should turn a fair bit of frost.
Do I also understand correctly that the inline injection pump returns the bulk of the fuel back to the tank, thereby heating it somewhat.
But this only applies if one has been driving for a good while.
peter I understood you cut the veg oil with mineral oil
so is this how you know it "crudles"
i am gambeling that with our milder winters it should not be a big worry
But with young Marcus being an inexperienced driver, I would be loath to inadverently cause an accident due to temp induced fuel starvation
cheers for now
Marcus

Funny enough i had considered routing the fuel lines ( in copper tubing) in or around the exhaust manifold for quick heat.
But then how do i heat the fuel in the filter?
Bearing in mind temperatures & fire risk?. No oxygen, no fire mind.
Yes routing the lines up next the exhaust is a good idea
But then Insulated or uninsulated ?
I suspect a "suck it and see" approach will be needed.
Overnight storage in a "warm" shed would appear to be the key.

I can't speak about soy, but have spoken with some German G owners have been testing rapeseed oil and found that they could still run it at 100% down to -12c.

At -15c they had 10% diesel mixed in.

Hi Marcus we use a 15watt 240v coolant heater in our airport ground equipment diesel tanks or 50/50 diesel / Jet A1 (parrafin) also fit 30 watt to the coolant system with a three pin mains connector in the engine bay....the plumbing between the tank and the fuel filter is the problem.the heat in the block coolant keeps the filter and injector pump free of gel.I have seen 12v/24 pump installed in main fuel line below filter to push gel back into the heated tank before attempting to start the engine (in Jugoslavia)

Accept the fact that G's are thirsty and diesel cost money...

In the mean time I'll just keep filling up with chip oil!
