Most of us here would like our beloved G's to look the same forever, but MB is going to facelift it next year (inside & out)
In return they will build it until 2015.
The AMG will get a 6.3 liter
the 500 will be a biturbo
and there will be a entry level 4 cylinder with 204hp :D
here it is....

The only upside is RHD from Sept 2010 production, The 204 BHP is the 250CDI, 2148cc twin turbo with 204BHP

Not much of a facelift. Same caravan rubber fitted windows, same push button door handles. Different wipers(!), piggy eyed headlamps, new grill! Hardly radical. Still a G.

Dunno why - but thought it was a Chrysler Jeep of some sort at first.

Supposedly when they were going to redesign the G a few years back and the idea got vetoed, the design became a chrysler jeep...

As for RHD my understanding was it was only going to be in 461s?

The sidesteps are pretty horrendous too, look how deep they are.... surely that must make you loose a few inches of clearance....

Re: AUWCH. G facelift

Mercedes are developing a bit of a track record in design horrors in recent years from the w140 saloon to the Maybach and the ridiculous banana car the CLS. Shame they thing its fun to desecrate the g-wagen. Might appeal to Americans.....engines aside.....Vile

PS for sure??

Have a look at the rock shadow just above the 2nd door window; and the arrangement of the rocks between the right wheels... I do think that the magazine photo is a photoshopped one...

Re: AUWCH. G facelift

OK. I think the one in the mag is really, really crap. I can not believe Mercedes Benz would make the same stupid mistake they have made with previous cars.... The G (according to the stuff that was printed in the 25 year book) is one of the longest production mercs and one of the most successful. Why, because it has hardly changed. Working on the same premise it must therefore be one of the most profitable?

I think the picture in the mag is a tease - possibly by some land rover driver or Jeep Cherokee owner. The side steps, no raised indicator lamps (which I like) AND the fact it is like the Russian G with an S Class front that was done a few years back, some one is having a laugh!

If there are any Mercedes Benz 'Lurker's' on the forum. take heed,

NO, NO, NO, your ideas to guild a Lilly is on a par to asking Fred and Rosemary West to look after your kids, it also shows that you have been to the Stevie Wonder school for gifted designers and finally why not follow the old, tried and trusted adage

'IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT'

Yours, a very passionate G owner

The article in this German magazine unfortunatly not talking about "maybe"
what the article said (in short):
Even Mercedes Benz agrees fully with you. The G IS the most profitable model in their range...That's why they keep prolonging it's life...
In its current form it could be stretched until 2012. But recently they decided to build the G at least until 2015. This required them to change the front to comply with pedestrian safety norms. (this is the case, but maybe not like in this photoshop)
Other than the new front, new navi and E-klass seats, the facelift G remains largely unchanged.

So, because some person MAY decide to step out in front of MY G, they have to make it pedestrian friendly? Oh Just isn't that just bloody great!

Next they will be dictating that any car with character or does not look like a jelly mold is not allowed on the roads!

Thanks for the translation Easy

I don't even want to think about the Maybach!!! More than everything you will ever need, beautifully constructed, but utterly tasteless in my humble opinion.

Re: AUWCH. G facelift

So if the g-wagen production is to end and some day it must, let it finish with its self respect intact and not like a big bumper MGB. As a group we need to launch an official GWOA protest. Letters to the German Ambassador as well; a picket of the docks if they try to import it, a boycott of German lager.....etc etc. All in favour.....carried unanimously :x

Re: AUWCH. G facelift

So basically you are all complaining that they are making the impact zones safer for pedestrians right and that changes the look?

Take a w460 and a w463. One has steel grille, steel bumper the other has plastic.

Surely that is a softening measure in itself?

The business of making a G 'eye-candy' is what kept it selling all these years, just like Land Rover had to do with the Defender and looks like the Iveco Massif has taken those lessons uo and ran with them.

It's just progress but it keeps the G on the market for years to come which is surely a good thing. I won't be running out to buy one (too many toys, not tough enough (and it will cost too much)) but I am sure others will.

This is a valid point, as well as the "eye candy consideration"but why not make it the same shape but in plastic?
but I agree with prwales no way could I afford a new one or run it, and wouldn't want one anyway.

Re: AUWCH. G facelift

'eye candy' is meant to be pleasing, not vomit inducing (like the new front we are discussing)

If I wanted that type front I could save money and get it on a Jeep.
If I wanted to be pedestrian friendly would drive a Pious (maybe if your hit crossing the road while on your; Ipod, Blackberry, mobile phone etc etc YOU we liable, it would drop the number of people getting hit?)

Gentlemen of the Mercedes Board, DO YOU REALLY THINK THE MILLITARY WILL WANT PEDESTRIAN FRIENDLY BUMPERS? EH EH, NO!

PLease do not do what ford did to the Granada! Unless of course you find the success of the G is somthing YOU think you can do better? If so some friendly advice from Spider1V of the GWOA, the current thinking is a great example of 'GO HOME AND DO IT AGAIN!'

Unfortunately the military are not bound but the same stoopid EU regulations as the civilians... so they will continue building the Greenline Gs as they do today.
