At long last i am the proud owner of a 1986 Silver 280 GE. I think this was GWOA car at some point (reg starts MBZ), so if anyone knows anything about it that would be great.

The car really needs a good service, exhaust manifold and a back box, can anyone reccommend a local specialist, or have any idea how much this should cost?

Thanks

welcome, the MBZ plate is popular with some Mercedes owners but I think that they are actually Ulster plates. "Peter Perfect" should be able to point you to a local specialist.

Welcome to the madhouse jc29
Mbz or ending in bz is from County Down Northern Ireland

The front downpies for the 280ge are over £350 from mercedes

I would be fitting a ss system for around the same price from front to back of your G

you must have an auto; 12 is a little low but even a manual will struggle to get 15-17 mpg. Is it a long wheel base? The only money saving option is LPG but that is fraught with problems as the many posts on this topic will testify. Keeping the plugs, distributor, leads in tip top condition can help but its the weight of the thing that wins out over any economy measure. If you have a bull bar remove it and consider doing the same with your spare wheel (carry an emergency foam tyre sealant instead). If its any consolation the diesels aren't great either and are comically slow.

Hello and welcome - hope your G brings many satisfying miles of ownership. Sorry for the schadenfreude, but nice to have some one who has a lower MPG than me!

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!!!! You should start a drilling business! Instead of calling it 'Standard Oil', you can call it 'Spider Oil'.
