Hi guys,
A bit of advice on buying and changing broken spring on door lock, it seems to me that it is No 30 on the attached sketch from my epc.
Where do I start?
Thanks in advance
Fred

Re: Changing spring on door lock

Fred,
My spring (item 30) broke and I needed to remove the entire window winder mechanism and then get the lock out. It was a 2-3 hour job. I got a spring from the local parts shop.

Re: Changing spring on door lock

Seems like a common failure. Thankfully there is always a temp. bodge (bungee cord) to get around these things  you can see it around the door pillar

Managed to find the broken spring (item 30) in the bottom of the door and reuse it by making a new loop and stretching it a little.
It is possible to replace it by just removing the door handle and using some long nosed pliers and a long screw driver to hook the spring in to place. Very fiddly and you may have to walk away and get a cup of tea if your patience runs short

Not much of a fail safe design though. One 5pence spring breaks and your door unlatches

Re: Changing spring on door lock

Hi Fred Item 30 ..you can remove the assembly after taking off... the door card and plastic sheet take out the central locking actuator and disconnect the rods for the inner button and the inner opening lever ..undo the starhead screws and the screw that holds the window channel closest to the latch assembly..remove the water deflector cover and ease the latch assembly past the window channel..its a bit fiddley but less of a challenge than stripping out window mechanism....take the broken spring to your local supplier and match like for like...*** a new latch assembly from MB is GBP 41+vat and they are handed left and right.... p/n MA000 720 37 35 for the drivers door (RHD)

No sweating! Even a plonker like me can do it. But yes, you need to remove the window winder assembly before you get to the lock.
