I have heard that the 463's are more capable off road than the 460's. They are basically the same underneath, but the 463 is a bit stronger on the front corners and the permanent 4wd means a tighter turning circle off road.

For some reason though I struggle a lot more off road with my 463 than any of my 460's, of which the best one is my 230 limited edition. It has nothing to do with power and I actually find the 603 diesel engine a dream off road. The car just feel a bit to soft. I got stuck again today in a hole through which I used to tow a big 10' x 6' trailer with Russ' old 280 lwb. I don't get the grip, and I lift my wheels to quick. All in all I think any of my 5 previous 460's are better off road than this one.

Re: 463 vs 460

Haven't tested my 463LWB too much off road...too nice still, but in comparison with my 460SWB I'd go 460 as its much lighter and not so soft on the suspension. Having said that I would think a 300GES is lots of fun with the extra power. I also prefer leavers to buttons as there're more instant... although my 463 lockers are getting quicker with use....I don't think they'd ever been used before I got the car!
Other 463 Irritation is the Fog Lights need draining evertime I go through a Ford...must buy some more seals!

Difficult to say without having tried a 463 off road either, but I found my 230GE to be 'softer' than the one or two 463 I have driven.
I prefer the 2WD on the road as well, which is where I spend most of the time.
