my G is kaputt!
I was about to join the autobahn this afternoon... wet road, bad weather... and I flipped the G!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
Wind screen came off... both mirrors fallen off, right rear badly damaged... it was BAD! Don't think it is 'economically repairable' :'( It finally came to a halt on its left side, I was sitting sideway in mid air :-(
All I want to say ist that the seat belt saved my limbs, if not my life!
are you hurt?
I feel for you...and wish you a new or repaired G
Glad to hear you are fine. Did it spin before you hit the thing that caused it to flip..? SWBs spin round very quickly, supposedly to do with the full-time 4wd.
blimey tht cheap one look cheap and good as you say
Good to here that you are ok. Might you not get a cheaper LHD in Britain than in Germany?
Dude,
Gald you in one piece!

I wasn't thinking of the high end stuff more like military surplus. These ones come complete with winter camouflage.

You might get more waves from the Bundeswehr.
Can I have the hazard warning light switch ?
Sorry to hear of accident, we all get a spin sometime, 50km doesn't sound much till it happens and these are pretty heavy vehicles. Exchange rate is rubbish for the UK pound now, might be worth a look?? or go for an older one temporarily, You can get your money back quicker, later when you find the right one.
At least now that rear washer can spray wherever it wants. Good to hear you'r ok buddy, I've had my fair share and I know what it feels like.
Can I construe from that comment that you are in to the usual debate with your insurance company? The one where they offer you a stupid price.
If so you need to collect evidence from places like Autotrader and maybe even the German sites as they seem to actually have higher prices. Something unusual such as a G confuses them (if you want to give them the benefit of the doubt) or allows them to play silly games.
Never accept the first stupid offer.
Russ is correct plus you can supply evidence frm GWOA members who have seen your vehicle and can substantiate condition and value?
this association knows more about g-wagens and their values than any insurance claims clerk, stick to your valuation. The role of insurance is to indemnify you if you suffer a loss.....or if you like to put you in the same position you were in before the accident.
Yes!!! It's the situation which I am in at the moment... they seem to think that my G only worths £1100!!! ...
That beyond stupid  Not even funny.
If you can get the price up and come to a settlement you maybe able to buy it back off them and then advertise it as a a parts vehicle.
Not too sure how it works these days with respect to different clasifications though. I'm assuming they have classed it as a total loss/right off which may affect what you can do with it assuming you do buy it back off them.
Loads of hassle though :( :(
Russ
That l Jackson site in Doncaster looks good, anyone any idea on prices of these ex nat /mod G wagens
I imported my new G from germany
it's very straightforward....
you need two documents from the previous owner to be able to import and register your vehicel
-fahrzeugbrief
-fahrzeugshein
then you go to the local "verkehrsambt" where the car is deleted from germany and all your import /export papers are handed to you.
If you wish to drive your car home you can buy transitplates for 150€
those are numberplates that are valid for 14 days and include insurance.
thats it.
In belgium you then have to go to customs to stamp your import papers and arrange your insurance and you're done!
G
Than I would gladly pick it up!!!

check pm
thx Pok!
Hi Pok
Sorry to hear about your accident and loss
hope all is well
i would strongly advise against releasing your salvage
until you have cashed your insurance cheque
i have had a nasty deal with an uk insurance company that
agreed to give me salvage rights to my damaged car and agreed
verbaly to this at an agreed price , in turn i sold the salvage and the insuance company went back on the word and salvage price and paid me buttons for the difference !
so when they have paid you get rid of your salvage
that when its safe !
Pok, if you are correct in that there is no damage to the running gear might a body transplant from a 460 not be reasonable option? Keeping the front grill and bumpers if they're ok. I recall a complete body swap being featured in an old edition of G-Wizz magazine involving a 1930's Ford pick up. This was said to have been straightforward but using a 460 might be simpler still. Why not talk to the G-Class centre before you give up on your car? regards
Paul
Have you got breakdown cover? If you have that should make return to GB possible. A body transfer is difficult but not impossible. The g's body is simply bolted to the chassis, the difficulty to me would not be the body swap but the re-wiring needed to dismantle and then reassemble the dashboard into the replacement tub. Take a bit of time over the decision. Act in haste regret at leisure as the saying goes.
good luck
And thanks again Pok,
Good karma to you!
G
Hi there are you breaking up the car if so would you want to sell the side steps with fixings? rgds Leo
Thank you very much for the kind words!
No, thankfully i wasn't hurt... the seat belt did its job! However going to the hospital was compulsory, since i was all okay... waited for about 2 hours in the hospital.
I am looking at mobile.de now... find a reasonable G300TD for €14500, quite tempted!
Anyways... flipped at 50km was aweful! It shows how bad of a driver I am!! hahahahahhaha!!!!
