Hello Kameraden,

After driving to Ukraine in the A6 this summer... I am tempted to drive to Odessa again this December in the G.

I have a few questions tho, hope you experts could help!

1.) Should I leave the engine on for as long as possible, in order to avoid it cooling down too rapidly?

2.) Would AT tyres be sufficient enough to drive on snowy roads?

3.) Anything else I should be aware of?

4.) The most important question of all... will my 91 G work in this kind of weather at all? The German petrol vehicles didn't back in the early 40s...

Thanks!!!!!! :P

Global warming should see you alright and the Black Sea is not exactly Siberia? Plenty of antifreeze and thick sleeping bags in case you get stuck. Oh and Vodka comes in handy in case you need assistance from the locals or if you haven't put enough anti freeze in the cooling system.

Hi AT Tyres are a definite No NO for packed snow.untreated roads...the narrower the footprint the better.steel rims with snow pattern tread or chains are the only way to maintain directional drive.....big fat AT's are like ice skates..for the rest.... Antifreeze in the screen washer. a windscreen scraper. a double 6tog duvet and a 12 volt hot jug to plug into the lighter socket and your ready for Lapland!!! *** make sure the windscreen washer water heater is working......

Re: Driving in extreme cold...

Have you thought about fitting one of those chimnea thingies in the back, have to remove the rear seats and cut a hole in the roof for the pipe but it would definitely keep you cosy. Might be able to cook with it as well, think I saw one in the ORC catalogue somewhere...........

And you call -18º cold? You mean Celsius? That's what I get in my back yard almost every winter!
