I am wondering if I could put 5W-30 into my 91 M103 engine? I usually use 5W-40...

Thanks!

Just check it more often, might burn it off?

Hello iphong,

Your engine is desinged to take 15w/40; your are better off sticking to that.

5W is a thinner vicosity oil for the NEW, mordern engines with extra fine machining tolorences, yours is by now, obviously with wear and thinner viscosity oil is not right for it. No significant advantage to be gained here.

As mentioned by the previous contributor, the oil will simply burn off.

Given the milder winters we now experience, we at the moment do not need the fine quality oil, not that the 15w/40 is any worse.

Cheers,
