I put my G to 'park' before it fully stopped
It has just happened about 15 minutes ago... I was in a hurry so I put the gear stick to 'p' position before it fully stopped... It actually was moving at less than 1 mph... Would it still do any damage to the transmission? If so, how bad is it? Everything seems fine after the incident.
Hi If it still locks the transmission on a hill when "P" is selected you have not sheared the pawl and it should be ok.....
just out of interest if it did shear the "pawl" how invovled a gob is this to fix??
one of my autos selects park on the box but doesnt lock....it was a farm vehicle with no breaks in a previous life and suspect it was throwmn into park to stop it!!
Hi Mick don't know on the G' gearbox .. never had one apart...on the BW 35 and 45 it cracks the aluminium casting that the pawl slides in...messy and very expensive these days.....try putting the transfer box into "neutral" and start the engine...with no load on the gearbox the torque converter rotates the cogs in the gearbox...gently attempt to select "park" the pawl detent will not accept the pawl because the machinery is turning and it will cause the gearlever to "vibrate" under your hand.. proving that the pawl is still intact. no vibration! no pawl!
