REMOTE KEY

Recently I noticed that the eletronic key to my 2003 G500 opens the doors remotely only when i am not more than 4 feet or 1 meter range of the vehicle. Prior this time, at 50 meters range i couls remotely open the doors.

Shortly before this time occasionally the alarm would intermitently trigger itself on and would only when i press the panic button. This has however stopped.

I have replaced the batteries in the eletronic key and even tried using the spare one that came with the car but still unable to remotely open the doors from a longer distance. Apart from this the car runs very well and remains a wonder to own, drive and experience.

Has anyone had a similar experience? What is responsible for this? What should i do?

I need some guide and prompt before going to have this checked in a workshop. Please advise.

I have had almost the same problem, except my alarm would go off for nothing, and wouldn't switch off with the key. The keys worked for opening and closing but this then meant disconnecting the battery or driving with the alarm screaming for a few miles before it switched itself off. Mercedes could not fix the problem and wanted to replace the whole system at a price of about £2000 + labour. I have spent about £800 without results, and then it corrected itself.

I know the first thing was to clean out the receiver unit from dust, so maybe you should try that yourself.
