1. General information
The production changeover for modification year 2009 will take place on 1. September 2009.
2. Model nomenclature
The model nomenclature for the G320 CDI will be changed from September 2009. The existing model variant codes will continue to apply. The model nomenclature for the G500 and G55 AMG will remain unchanged.

3. Standard equipment
New front seats
From the next modification year, the G-Class will be equipped with the front seats of the new E-Class (W212) in a G-Class specific variant. These front seats developed according to the latest ergonomic findings provide improved seating comfort and lateral support. The electric lumbar support is included in the basic specification. The optional climatised seats for the driver and front passenger have been improved with respect to ventilation. The reversible, preventive safety system PRE-SAFE®, the crash-responsive front NECK-PRO head restraints and the sidebags in the front seats are however not available for the G-Class.
The functionality of the optional multicontour seats has been further improved; the controls have been wholly adopted from the E-Class, and have a substantially more attractive feel and appearance.
The rear seat unit has been redesigned in line with the front seats, also the head restraints.
Where a leather interior is specified, the previous ruffled leather door panels will be replaced with smooth-surfaced door panels. The upper door panels are in leather, while the lower door panels and the tailgate panel are in man-mde leather. This does not apply to designo leather interiors, where all the doors will continue to have ruffled leather. The door panels will also remain unchanged when a fabric interior is specified.
AUX-IN connection in glove compartment
From September 2009 an AUX-IN connection will become standard equipment for all models. The AUX-IN connection will be omitted if a Media Interface (Code EH3) is ordered.
Designer key
The ignition key familar from many of the passenger car series will also be adopted for the G-Class.
4. Optional extras
new: Ambient lighting (Code FR1); GLP: 160 EUR
Ambient lighting consists of:
• Optical fibres in the front side door panels (also in the rear for the long Station Wagon)
• Illumination of the front interior door catches (also in the rear for the long Station Wagon)
• Footwell lighting in the front and rear
• Illuminated oddments tray in the centre console
The ambient lighting can be dimmed with the instrument cluster lighting control (the instrument cluster is dimmed at the same time).
Ambient lighting is standard equipment in the G55 AMG.
new: leather-covered dashboard (Code JC9); GLP: 1600 EUR
The leather-covered dashboard is always in standard black leather
A leather-covered dashboard is standard equipment in the G55 AMG.
new: Chrome package (Code ZD6); GLP: 730 EUR
The Chrome package comprises:
• Radiator grille with chrome inserts as in G55 AMG
• Chrome frame around automatic transmission
• Continuous chrome surround on the wood trim of the seat adjustment control
• Chrome ring around the loudspeaker mesh in the front doors
• Luggage compartment sill with "Mercedes-Benz" lettering
The Chrome package is standard equipment in the G55 AMG. As now, the luggage compartment sill of the G55 AMG bears the "AMG" logo.
Spare wheel cover (Code RB9); GLP: 450 EUR (unchanged)
In future the Mercedes-Benz star will be a three-dimensional version
Media Interface (Code EH3); GLP: 200 EUR
The Media Interface will in future include the consumer cable kit consisting of an iPod, USB and AUX cable. As for the passenger cars, the price will be increased by 40 EUR to 200 EUR.
5. New upholsteries
From September, the following upholstery variants will be available at unchanged prices:

SP5 Leather upholstery in chestnut
The leather upholstery colour "chestnut" will replace the current "cognac" (Code VS6).
The current upholstery codes VS1 to VS6 will be discontinued, including "ARTICO" man-made leather (Code VS5).
All the new upholstery variants are always based on a black interior!
