I am quite tempted to get another G... There is nothing wrong with my current one but just wanted for a change :-P

There are a few options available, please give your opinions generously!

500 GE
G300 TD

300 GD cab

The G300 TD is the most attractive one but it has done a lot of kilometres, even more than my current one. I am moving to Germany in slightly more than a month's time so I am thinking should I sell my current one now and get an estate for the transportation of my stuff, then get the TD when i get there. Saw a T reg Audi A4 estate sold for 1.25k in a car auction this afternoon ;-)

Re: Changing G

Sounds like a goood idea to buy one when over there - but they will prob have higher miles on due to distances in europe

get a v70 volvo estate cheaper - and fit more stuff in it

Re: Changing G

as you can see g's hold their value well in Deutschland so why not try to buy the ge500 (provided you can cope with the bad smell left by the 1st owner) and sell it there before you come back, you might even make a profit. Or you could even put up with having your rhd car over there, its no great hardship really.

Ah so you've seen the car, I was wondering why bidding hasn't gone over 8400. Typical last-minute bidders I suspect will take it over 10k.
Pok be sure to see and poke around the car you plan to buy, and of course get a mechanic to check it if you can. Where is your G now, haven't seen it around town lately?

Hmmmm, that might be a bit difficult since the seller is asking for 15k... doubt i can get €17347 for it next year :(

Thanks for the advise M2dxb!! I will definately have a look before buying. Hopefully it won't be sold on Friday night because I am not able to go to London and have a look until next week... :-P hahahahaha, very selfish of me!!

I am in Cirencester, Gloucestershire at the moment... countryside... YEAH!! I came down a week and a bit ago. I was very happy that the SWB could hold all my stuff + my cat!! The packing took me more than a week :(

How are you? Are you finishing the PhD this summer??

Re: Changing G

Ah I see, yes you can fit a lot with the rear seats folded completely and the fronts moved forward. I'm ok still waiting to do my exam, hopefully in August. Who knows might still be here when you get back a year from now!

Re: Changing G

try to pay less for the 500ge, its a buyers market, £15,000 is way to much.
If you did a little chart for fuel consumption it might show another perspective to the problem you face.

I thought he said he has changed his mind... plus his G is a bit too expensive for me.

Re: Changing G

I would say the V8 - but as a student the fuel consumption may be a tad high, as highlighted by PW. Olso we have another student down this neck of the woods who has an E190... which he is happy with.

However if it really is an ex royal car - could there be some provenance that would keep the price high for a sale in Germany? Being LHD it would be better to sell it over there? (why/what does it smell of?)

The Cab would be a great student car - fun trips, top down etc etc. (Thinking das Red Head and Ms Gun   )

The 300TD - if it does have high mileage, would you be adding THAT much more in a 12 month period - could the average mileage actually drop while you own it?

And finally your current one - so it has the steering wheel on the right side, people over here can survive with LHD in a RHD country, one is sure that RHD in a LHD would be the same?

Good luck in you purchase whatever you decide

Hey Spider!!!!

Thanks! If the 500 GE does 14 mpg, that is not that much worse than the 300 GE... so I guess that wouldn't be THAT bad, hopefully

The high milage of the G300 TD worries me because I might have change the head gasket, brake cylinders, brake disks and blah blah blah quite soon...

Oh!! Speaking of Miss Gun, partied with her and a few old classmates a couple of nights ago... FANTASTIC!!!

Re: Changing G

Spider might be right that the cachet of a royal link might appeal to the Germans as the Greek royal family like ours is essentially German.
