280 vs 300

Does anyone know how much more power has the 300 petrol has got than the 280 and what happens to fuel consumption?

if you get a manual 300ges you may with a gentle right foot achieve 20 mpg having also had an auto 280ge swb I can honestly say that 13/14 mpg was the average. In terms of power the 300 boasts either 170 or 188 bhp depending where you read it and the 280, 150 bhp. The real difference you notice though is in the torque with the ge 300 giving more at lower revs than the 280ge. The 280 is a very nice smooth engine and being a twin cam is free revving but its thirst and lack of torque mean that the 300 engine is much better suited to the g-wagen. LWB vehicles being heavier are also thirstier.

My old 230GE gives about 15 mpg on road and about 1 gal per hour off.

Where can I get a 300 engine for it? It seems I would get more power, more torque, for much less fuel :P

the Gwagen club of SA use to have all the merc specs on fuel etc of each model before they updated the website now members can only access those info . you know johan marx? ask him
