I just love this picture.

Plus the AMG mini-site has been updated.

Have to disagree. I don't like too much bling but that's subtle and 'grrr' enough at the same time IMO.

We just dont get enough hills round our way, so 19" alloys and white paint is perfect for the muddy puddles we have to deal with!

Re: 2009 G55 AMG

Hmmmmmm - Before I pass my judgement, what difference is there in ride height V's a normal 500? I understand the AMG's are lowered, which mean not that good at off road....

But you’ve got a proper G Wagen now Christo

Why bother with that thing

(Have you bought a big angle grinder yet?) or fancy swapping it for a Shogun yet?!

Re: 2009 G55 AMG

If you want something marginally less crass get yourself a Supercharged RR Sport.
Faster, better built, better off road, and you get to keep a shed load of money to spend on even more tasteless tatt

Re: 2009 G55 AMG

the g-wagen was always, a square cut, form following function, anti fashion sort of vehicle sadly MB has turned this on its head and is in the process of turning it into a 4 wheel drive Maybach with all the naff, tastelessness and vulgarity that implies........no offence

This may be so, but I still would not say "no thanks"

This may be so, but I still would not say "no thanks"neither would I; for a start I could sell it on but if I were to keep it I would have to spend money to remove expensive add ons that I nether need nor like so it would be not my choice sort of,

"if I wanted to get to such and such a place then I would not start from here argument"

though I suppose the naff bits could be sold on but who would buy that grill?

Maybe 25 years ago but since the 463 model started to look more like a road car than an off road car things moved on. The square cut design was so because call cars from that era were square (remember the Countach and Lagonda!). The road use 4x4 has moved on much more than what the G55 has become. Just look at the X5 and X6 as examples.

I could drive any car for everyday use. A Corolla if I am sensible, an Audi if I want to fit the norm, or a G which in my opinion looks stunning. Am I ever going to take it off road? Probably not much, but then why would I want to a normal and boring car? The way I look at the G55 is its the perfect car for daily use, power, looks, build, spec, with the only downside being fuel consumption. Would I want a 461 or a basic looking 463 to use everyday? Hell no.

Re: 2009 G55 AMG

steering wheel's on the wrong side and the Countach still looks great, in fact its difficult to see the design progress in 25 years, (abs aside) cars are blander, more similar, more boring and its a crying shame that the G-wagen is being turned into chrome plated embarassment in the pursuit of Yankee $s........no offence

Re: 2009 G55 AMG

If I could get an AMG55 with no side pipes and I could off road as well as I could with my 500 - Naff, gauche or not I would get one - there is something special about the AMG, mainly the speed and THAT noise, when you piling down a road, the AMG engine note, for a real petrol head , is something to behold.

BUT

If I could not get the ride height or get the side pipes removed/change then forget it - just save up and get a New G500

Re: 2009 G55 AMG

joe, you need to get a 500 and then get a company to put a supercharger on it for you, then you could have your wet dreams of sound, and your off road practicality!

Re: 2009 G55 AMG

HMMMMMM yes but no. It has to be an AMG..... Dunno why, but ever since I saw a friends dad at school, pull up in a 500 SEC AMG (one of the first AMG's AND one of the first in the UK) it has always been AMG love!

BUT.....

Having said that what have AMG done for me lately>

Re: 2009 G55 AMG

Also, bear in mind the "new" 500s are a 5.5l 388hp 7-speed, which is (almost) faster than the old 5.5 AMG (354hp), and a 500 doesn't sound like too bad a package after all.
