Hi Is it from the Head gasket or a coreplug? you still have to move the engine forward to fit a new plug but it is better than pulling the head for no reason.if it is not leaking into the rearcylinder and there is no rough running or water in the oil / oil in the water "Bars Leaks" works well if you flush the system thoroughly ....any oil contamination and it would be a total waste of time ....there will be some parts to change over to make your SL engine compatible like sump. exhaust manifolds. tacho sender.to mention a few.....

cheers peter will the heater matrix be all right with bars ive never used it. I'am a bit worried about this engine as some of the paperwork that came with it mentioned flushing the cooling system a couple of times during its history. secretly I fancy fittting the sl to one of the Gs I bought a blois lpg carb a will back and it would lend itself to the sl engine might have to go in my G :D if the bars works. Are the head gaskets thin in rear left corner ? cheers Andy

because of the way the engine lays the rear of the head collects all the sediment generated from heating untreated lime rich water and if flushing agents have been used the corrosive nature of the agent will mix with the sediment and eat the gasket away it can also create hot spots.the only long term solution is to pull the head or change the engine. there will be sediment in the heater matrix and the bottom of the radiator both should be purged before the Bars treatment.........

if you are considering an engine change why stay with the 280? Surely the work involved is the major cost rather than the cost of a s/h engine, the 280 is smooth certainly but lacks torque and is very thirsty.
