I don't think that there is anything different about the g/box compared to other cars. Some of the 500s had drain plugs fitted to the torque convertor, others didn't. Mine does. Rotate that to the lowest point to drain.
Mine takes about 5L to refill, the initial fill is 8L so there is some which remains. Use the MB oil, presumably you have access to a dipstick.

Picking one up tomorrow is there an idiots pictorial guide any where with pointy arrows and stuff?

Will I need an oil pump to refill?

Sorry , no pictures. Just undo the sump plug and drain it. Remove the t/convertor access cover and rotate the engine to find the drain plug and drain it. Replace plug!
You don't need a pump to refill. Just a small funnel.
Keep everything clean, are you doing the filter also?

For an excellent pictorial go to:

There are several options for the transmission oil.

Fuchs ATF 3353
Shell ATF 3353
Mobil ATF 3353.

A method worth condsidering to get more of the old oil out after you have initially refilled is to run the transmission in 'park' for about 40 seconds only and then drain the oil pan again. Refill up to spec.

Re: G500

I was told to leave the torque convertor alone because sometimes the drain plug is well and stuck in there. What I did was pull the drain plug the reinstall it and refill the transmission. Start the G and put it in all the gears and then shut it off and drain and fill again. I did this until it was perfectly red again. Then I finally took the pan off and replaced the filter.

I don't think that this is economicallyt efficient. I think it's better to change the oil every 25,000 miles (40,000 km) even if you actually replace half of the total capacity of the box. Just my opinion...
