Howdy,
(hope my repost has fixed the big pics)
i am planning on putting 463 grills on the front qtr panels of our 460. i have bought what i think are all the parts (plenty of bolts and things not in pics), but am a bit puzzled as to how these bolt onto the 463, particularly at the grill part. i appreciate on 463 there is a wheel arch liner which might stop owners from seeing how it goes together, but does anyone have some close up pics of how thhis stuff goes together and bolts to the body? further, our RHD passenger side grill fits snugly (1st and 2nd pic) into the scoop but in the last pic, you will see the drivers side is much smaller in length than the scoop. WT hell? did i get the wrong scoop as the grill looks the correct size from brochures (last pic)
many thanks

Re: w463 air intake grills

Hi Nathan the 463 series wing has a cutout section with a recessed shoulder to allow the grill to fit flush to the wing profile and only the nearside wing has the grill..when you get to later marcs "V8" then there are grills on both sides... again the orifice is shouldered for the grill to sit in a recess....major and intricate panel hole cutting and shoulder forming is required to fit the grills properly ( some heat may have to be used to the detriment of the paint)....as it will only cosmetic on a 460 series G' would be probably best forgotten.....of course two 463 series wings would bolt in place but matching the paint (oil based on the 460--water based on the later marcs could present a problem.......

Re: w463 air intake grills

thanks fix,
ive got my 500 transplant project underway and hopefully by the end of the year, red will be powered by the m117 5L. i have two spare 460 front wings i was planning to send to the body shop to get them both done. what you describe is how i had imagined they were designed. i was hoping for some pcis of what these 'lips' look like to get the body shop to create them. i will be using the twin snorkel on the 5L to plug these into the grills, so will be more than cosmetic (rather than have air sucked from behind hot radiator) - also i can hook up snorkel if so choose down the track using these grill spaces. if anyone has a 463 and could take some close ups it would be much appreciated
regards

Re: w463 air intake grills

The pics are from a 99 g500. RHS refers to the driver's side on a RHD G.
The RHS grille is roughly the same length (250 mm)as the LHS but narrower, the one you are concerned about looks too small, but I can't tell from the pic.

Let me know if you want high res pics, send me you email adrress by PM.
If you are going to put on snorkels from ORC or someone else then it doesn't matter what sort of a mess you make of the wings (within reason) as they will be covered up.
Where did you get the part numbers and the parts?

Re: w463 air intake grills

thanks a lot Roly,
we also drive on the right side of the road here in oz too.
i just viewed an old epc and picked out the part numbers! the m117 im using for my 460 has a dual snorkel/intake under the bonnet so i want to create both sides. the drivers side scoop (463 520 01 04) though is much longer than my drivers side grill (463 881 0185 which is ~24cm long) although i cant find any other alternative scoops so it must be the right one. i figured out how the passenger side attaches to the body, but have no idea how to fit the drivers side as on the epc it doesnt show any brackets and its different to the passenger side ? all this stuff is on group 52 of the epc's.
thanks again
any further pics appreciated
