Question to you Historians out there
Troops,
When did MB officially end selling G in the UK?
When, officially were RHD's ceased from the productions line? (Excluding Military runs and AMG's)
Cheers

From the "for sales" over the last few years, I'm guessing 00 or 01 in the UK. Sales started and finished in Ireland about 83 to 87.
2000.
2001 is the new interior and other than the G55K there are no RHD Gs with that interior.
In theory any MB dealer can still supply a new G, thats what Milton Keynes told me a few years ago. Getting them to be bothered is the difficult bit.
With a minimum order of at least 50, it is economically viable for M/benz to order a RHD run of G-Wagens. But such demand is not easily there for them to bother about as they are busy enough selling, other, of their models'. The introduction of new technologies in-corperated in their new G model, which was to be as a replacement to the G-Wagen; interests clash.
How many new G's have been seen on the Roads? I have not even seen One.
Last of the W460 ceased in 1989/90. The W463 was introduced in RHD form very briefly, which ended around 2000/1. During this time of M/benz official dealer ending new G-wagen imports; in the back ground was an independant garage working and got their licence to become official sole importer for the G-Wagen, after a few G500's alongside some W461 models were imported and sold M/benz UK wised up to the dractically New beast of a G-Wagen and wanted their "Lolly back". They fought to have the import licence for sole importation to be resinded and won their argument. The independant garage could still import the G-Wagens but no longer as sole importer.
In the 2000/1 era when new 463 G's ceased importation a few personal imports were ordered by M/benz UK.

Thanks Guys
This is what Mercedes are saying
'Mercedes-Benz UK says the last RHD G-Wagens were built in 2000 and that Gs were last sold new in the UK in 1996'
Its the last bit that has confused me.... any words of advice?

My guess is that MB UK last sold new G's in 1996 but - as Rakesh says - they were still being imported in RHD and LHD after that by garages and individuals.

This is correct.
Last year of official MBUK import was 1996. The only model offered was then the G300 petrol (formerly known as 300GE). Just 6 of these were imported and sold in 1996, of which at least one was SWB (I believe the other five were LWB).
Last year of 300GD offering was 1994. I have yet to see a G300 Diesel in RHD so I suspect that whichever number of diesels were sold in the UK that year they were all badged 300GD.
I believe that no GWagens were made in RHD in 1997 and from 1998-2000 a few dozens of G500 W463s and 290GDT W461s were made and imported by Caversham Garage (that sole importer mentioned by Rakesh) branded as Mercedes-Benz.
A handful pf Puch branded 290 GDTs in RHD were also imported and mostly sold to firefighter bodies between 1998-2000 by Automotive Technik Limited (ATL) which also manufactured until recently the Steyr-Puch Pinzgauer at the former Dennis truck factory in Guildford.
Thanks Guys
