Re: camping weekends

I would, definately. Would need to know fairly well in advance though due to the looming cricket season and wouldn't want to go too far. Say 2.5hrs or so.

I'm not experienced but will happily have a go if the experts don't mind waiting and/or winching!

If you have a tow bar you can rent caravans to, my first thoughts are sandy balls site in Dorset, they also have cabins for rent for those of you that are use to silk sheets and G500's

Rich going to sleep in the Rolls again?

Modificata - if you have kids they will love camping. Setting up tents is easy and there will be lots of people on hand to help.

Luxury camping :D

Not too sure if the owners would appreciate a bunch of global warming 4x4's:?

Stunning location though

When you say 'help' I assume you mean 'sit, drink beer, point and laugh'. Real men don't need 'help' putting up tents. Much like they don't need advice on bbq-ing, how to get places or any kind of written instruction 8)

There's something very satisfying about the word Yurt. Especially when spoken with a westcountry twang.

Good luck trying to convince all the yurt living, tree hugging Guardian readers on that one Spider

I’ll give it a miss though

Still fancy giving that place a try. I’ll just have to park down the road, don my bobble hat and hiking boots, dopey walking stick and walk there

OK, does look good, but I think they are being a bit 'Eco Racist' in that you get a reduced rate if your a backpacker or have a bike!

Re Russ's other comment about guardian reading, tree molesting, yurt living nutters - I find that it always those kind who I have to pull out of or rescue from the middle of flooded roads or carry back because they have twisted their foot while walking.

I would not mind, but a simple 'Thank you' would suffice - but getting it out of them, without the clenched teeth is always going to be an issue - tossers the lot of them!

Spider1V- Doing his bit for saving the planet - culling the Eco Nazi's

Spotted a place in Cornwall called 'Lusty Haven' :P - the 'perfect' getaway!

More seriously, we'p probably be up for some camping, especially now the G is being professionally sorted (well its going to a garage - I will reserve judgement just for a while!)

Re: camping weekends

No i wasn't suggesting we went to Lusty HAVEN - it was actually more of an 'activity 'Centre for adults (and some kids stuff) - that makes it sound even worse doesn't it.

heres the link: http://www.adventure-centre.org/

Just noticed its actually Lusty Glaze - why???

TOO far away for a weekend anyway and the cliff activities look too steep for driving even a G down!

Re: camping weekends

Ok recce'd the sandy balls site at the weekend, great site, but not wild enough for the Roof tent boys, and a little expensive, and no random quading or camp fires !. So looking at others, and contacting TOR for a road book of the area. Im on the case just give me time.

Re: camping weekends

 I'm pretty sure Dawn and Shaun stayed on a farm in Devon a while back that may suit the rough and ready G owners / wanna bees. :P

Some caravan club sites are available for tents at a reasonable cost - don't know if you had to be a member.
Six - Penny Handley - Dorset - near Lulworth Cove comes to mind, good pub too. (was a while ago that we went there though - possibly when Charles and Di got married :) )

Re: camping weekends

Pleased to hear your on the case Mr PP, Cornwall great, but long way for just a weekend. No camp fires at that site in Devon, theres not many that will allow! Studlands beach in Dorset looks nice, will have a look at some sites.

I don't know this particular site but I know the area fairly well and it's nice. Not far from military areas too which might be available for some laning? It also says they have a field available for hire for large groups.

Re: camping weekends

I'd definitely be up for it although I don't have my G here at the moment. Would come in my carawagon instead if that's OK. Would need a bit of notice as have to organise weekends around/with kids (they've done this several times before so no problems there).

Phileas, why not join us down at the Eastnor 4x4 show.
Wouldn't be the first time we've had LR's on the stand. In fact this year the LR's and LC's will out number the G's.

:D 1 Nissan, 2 LC's, 3 G's and a load of LR's.
We've had to join forces with a LR club this year to get a few vehicles on the stand
