camping weekends
who on here, and not the usual crew, would be interested in orgainsed camping weekends, some just social, with some of roading/laning involved.
any proposed locations?
I would, definately. Would need to know fairly well in advance though due to the looming cricket season and wouldn't want to go too far. Say 2.5hrs or so.
I'm in if it's within a couple of hours or so.
Andy
....tame to begin with! or harder stuff with escape routes!
do you mean the clicky crew?
do you mean the clicky crew?
we have one???????
Spider1V
You know who you are?
im bored when we camping?
Umm mud, rain, cold, the smell of cheap burnt meat on the barbie, axle grease, sounds good to me  but only if theres some beer involved at some point :D
Not sure on locations as yet , but will vary in locations, wales, lake district area so far.Can you all specify if you fancy tame or challengeing laning or neither, the usual crew will be invited of course !
I'm not experienced but will happily have a go if the experts don't mind waiting and/or winching!
Ive never been camping but after watching Long way round and down i've really wanted to try it out. Problem is I've never tried it so wouldnt know how to even get a tent up!
Perfect for us :D less good for w4hsa though methinks :( I think it's actually in Hampshire though but let's not get picky  Date/cost permitting I'd be keen.
If you have a tow bar you can rent caravans to, my first thoughts are sandy balls site in Dorset, they also have cabins for rent for those of you that are use to silk sheets and G500's
Now your talking my kind a camping!

Spider1VGreat you and Ferdi will be at home... ;)
Rich going to sleep in the Rolls again?
Modificata - if you have kids they will love camping. Setting up tents is easy and there will be lots of people on hand to help.
Luxury camping :D

Not too sure if the owners would appreciate a bunch of global warming 4x4's:?
Stunning location though

When you say 'help' I assume you mean 'sit, drink beer, point and laugh'. Real men don't need 'help' putting up tents. Much like they don't need advice on bbq-ing, how to get places or any kind of written instruction 8)

There's something very satisfying about the word Yurt. Especially when spoken with a westcountry twang.

Good luck trying to convince all the yurt living, tree hugging Guardian readers on that one Spider
I’ll give it a miss though
Still fancy giving that place a try. I’ll just have to park down the road, don my bobble hat and hiking boots, dopey walking stick and walk there
Strange name for a camping site that
"sandy balls"
and the reason is?

OK, does look good, but I think they are being a bit 'Eco Racist' in that you get a reduced rate if your a backpacker or have a bike!
Re Russ's other comment about guardian reading, tree molesting, yurt living nutters - I find that it always those kind who I have to pull out of or rescue from the middle of flooded roads or carry back because they have twisted their foot while walking.
I would not mind, but a simple 'Thank you' would suffice - but getting it out of them, without the clenched teeth is always going to be an issue - tossers the lot of them!
Spider1V- Doing his bit for saving the planet - culling the Eco Nazi's
Well when we going camping then???????????????
Dorset sound good and not too far away.
Sort it out Mr PP please.
It was called itchy balls but had complaints from lesbians saying it was sexist
Spotted a place in Cornwall called 'Lusty Haven' :P - the 'perfect' getaway!
More seriously, we'p probably be up for some camping, especially now the G is being professionally sorted (well its going to a garage - I will reserve judgement just for a while!)
Dorset sounds wonderful. Cornwall would be nice too... though not sure if I want to take the kids to a place called Lusty Heaven... :D
No i wasn't suggesting we went to Lusty HAVEN - it was actually more of an 'activity 'Centre for adults (and some kids stuff) - that makes it sound even worse doesn't it.
heres the link: http://www.adventure-centre.org/
Just noticed its actually Lusty Glaze - why???
TOO far away for a weekend anyway and the cliff activities look too steep for driving even a G down!
 I'm pretty sure Dawn and Shaun stayed on a farm in Devon a while back that may suit the rough and ready G owners / wanna bees. :P
Some caravan club sites are available for tents at a reasonable cost - don't know if you had to be a member.
Six - Penny Handley - Dorset - near Lulworth Cove comes to mind, good pub too. (was a while ago that we went there though - possibly when Charles and Di got married :) )
I can understand people being impatient; with the weather we've been having lately .blooming marvelous up north :D .it can't last
Pleased to hear your on the case Mr PP, Cornwall great, but long way for just a weekend. No camp fires at that site in Devon, theres not many that will allow! Studlands beach in Dorset looks nice, will have a look at some sites.

Nudist or non-nudist part?
I don't know this particular site but I know the area fairly well and it's nice. Not far from military areas too which might be available for some laning? It also says they have a field available for hire for large groups.
So Mr Perfect are you actually going to get a camping weekend organised or just talk about it?.... it will be winter soon!!!
hear hear
I'd definitely be up for it although I don't have my G here at the moment. Would come in my carawagon instead if that's OK. Would need a bit of notice as have to organise weekends around/with kids (they've done this several times before so no problems there).
Ph
Phileas, why not join us down at the Eastnor 4x4 show.
Wouldn't be the first time we've had LR's on the stand. In fact this year the LR's and LC's will out number the G's.
:D 1 Nissan, 2 LC's, 3 G's and a load of LR's.
We've had to join forces with a LR club this year to get a few vehicles on the stand
