Does the same pump do both back and front? I have lost pump power, as in very intermittant in working. Any ideas? Is the motor on the inside wing? Is the headlamp washer motor same ? That is working!

On mine there are 2 separate pumps next to each other, larger one ironically feeds the headlamp washers, smaller one does the rear/front windscreen. I think it is a reversible pump, one direction for front, another for rear. You should be able to see them peering into the bonnet at the front, behind the radiator, somewhere above steering box if I remember right. Check the connection to it and the fuse..I once took out the whole tank and gave it a good clean as it had some gunk from standing water too long. Since then I only use MB washer fluid. Involved operation with removing inner wing liner and hoping the bolts aren't stuck..if the inside of your tank has gunk in it, it easily blocks the narrow hoses..

Hi there is a non-return valve located just behind the jet in the upper quarter panel....with a gentle touch you can remove the jet body and draw the valve and pipe out into the daylight..secure the pipe behind the valve ( if you let it drop out of sight then the inner corner panel has to be removed to get it back) purge the valve and jet head.. select the rear wash and flush for a short while ..re-assemble and all should flow again.....

At the moment, no life in Washer pump, for back or front, I have seen them, may be just an earthing fault? I think the fuse is not seperate , Isn't it linked with the wipers? They work fine.

Re: 463 ,Windscreen Washer Pump

Hi The pumps can stall due to gell and gunge from the cleaning agents..you can remove and strip the base of the pump for cleaning and in most cases this gets all going again...leave the pump water supply pipes disconnected and flush the main tank until all the contamination has gone to avoid the same problem repeating.....

Remove the connector cable from the pump and connect 12v directly to the terminals. It should spin/pump, swap the polarity and it will spin/ pump the other direction. front/rear windows. Odds on that your connector terminals are corroded to such an extent that no connection exists anymore. Also test cable with multimeter for power, both ways, using front and rear switches.

Thanks,
I was wondering how motor supllied both back and front?
No , they are not that corroded, just look a bit tarnished. Is it posible to remove motor and strip then? Or is it a throway unit?

There is nothing to lose trying to rpair it. It is one bolt to remove the braket to release the pump, then disconnect the pipes. If you didn't use the rear washer, you could probably pick up a generic one from a parts store for little money...just as a temporary measure of course

I'm a bit of a washer addict! Since replacing the nozzle the presure has improved, I am just wondering how much more powerfull the headlamp washer is? If it is easy to to temporary plumb that into place to do the front.

If you're a fan of windscreen washers then you might want to convert it to the double nozzle setup as Dr Hans has done...

The pictures look good, whats the easy way of translating Dr Hans? Does he actually mention improved results?

Re: 463 ,Windscreen Washer Pump

researching your problem ....some info that may help .....fuse eight is for the front wiper/washer system...fuse 12 is for the rear wiper/washer system.... fuse 18 is for the headlamp washer system...this would indicate three pumps....crud in the tank/plumbing/jets is the most likely cause of pump stall...purging the pumps, tank plumbing and jets should remedy the problem. pumps are located in the off side engine bay attached to the inner wheel arch close to the radiator..... try rodding the pipes with a flexy curtain wire... "washing up liquid" is a definite No No......to many bubbles causes the pumps to cavitate and it also gells in the pipes from the heat of the engine.......

Removed pump, it was siezed up. After a bit of pulling around managed to seperate motor from plastic shaft, with "pump" cleaned now works when put across a battery. However doesn't work in situ, mulitmeter shows 11Volts at pump feed. Though I would have thought this would be enough? May be I have supply problems?

Re: 463 ,Windscreen Washer Pump

Because the polarity switches when you use f/r washer there is a more complicated setup than just 12v on one side. The earth side also needs to be correctly functioning. At least you know that the mechanical side is correct. Does it spin both ways when you switch polarity?
Check the connectors are clear ans see what reading you get when you connect the multimeter directly across the connector and use f/r washers.

Don't want to appear too stupid, but where does it earth back to?
I recently removed the indicator/wiper stalk, but it was working fine on reasambly.I will try multimeter on connector, and report back.

Re: 463 ,Windscreen Washer Pump

Solved :D Problem was very slight corrosion on the female spade terminals, and they were also a bit loose.
