Hello everyone,
Yet another question from the newbie... does anyone know how to get the long skinny panel covering the interior of the driver's column? I need to replace the seatbelt and don't want to break any clips, etc. Has anyone done it before? If someone has a diagram, would be wonderful as well.

Many thanks all,

Hova.

Its not the clips that are in danger of breaking.

Remove the cover using firm, but quick jerk action at its sides to push away to unclip. Alternatively, take a broad based screw driver and by locating the clips, apply force on the clip, to push away.

Once away, the cover needs to be carefully bend at the bottom and, or at the top, so that it could slide out from an overlaying cover. The weakest point is the top seat belt anchor, take care appling force here.

I think the bottom overlaying cover does need to remove so you can take off the seat belt reel. If you have seat belt restraints fitted in the form of piroplex explosive, leave the job for the professionals!

Thanks so much. The seatbelt itself is being fitted by a seat-belt servicing professional... I just wanted to make sure that he wasn't going to accidentally break something off in the process!

So it is really a "yank it off" kind of job, eh? What exactly did you mean by "bend it at the bottom"? Does the whole cover not come off?

Many thanks,
Hova

Yes, exactly that. That should all come off, but I think there may be just one more cover to remove so the bottom reel can be accessed. You need to slightly bend without folding or creasing at the top so to draw and slide the cover out of another interlocking cover, once the top is free from the interlock, you can then lift or pull upwards the bottom section away from its bottom interlock.

My memory is vauge, it has been a few years now that I have worked on G-Wagens'.
