LED replacement
Hello everyone,
I'm about to embark on quite a bit of work to the dash/speedo of my 463. I figure, if I'm going to take the dash off for A/C work, "jumpy" speedo needle, and re-upholstering of the dash top anyhow, why don't I just change all the LEDs inside from orange to white?
That said - does anyone know if this has already been discussed on the forum (the LED replacement)... I couldnt find it in my own search... and how complicated it would probably be? Does anyone know what size LEDs are needed for behind the dash?
Many thanks in advance!
Hova.
Hello Hova,
These do not have LED bulb or diodes. All illumination is by bulb, I can not remember positively; in most cases the bulbs are already with an encaplusated base that, you simply twist off and on, with the new. If not, then the bulb is a capless type, which slides out, and in with a new bulb into the base, which in turn twists off/on. Or you may have a combination of the two types.
Should you have, had LEDs', then these would be life time; you do not have to renew these as they do not fade as I am aware of it. They blow and simply not work, but they do not fade. Your Mercedes-Benz dealer will be able to select very easily, the bulbs you need.
Even with the proper dash removing tool one needs to take care pulling out the dash. A simple slip of the tool, or your choice of implement can break the plastic cover to the dash. So take heed, pull out the dash evenly, and do not rush to extract the panel, apply firm pressure.
Regards,
It's definitely been discussed. Hus went into quite a bit of detail about using LEDs.
Thank you M/S,
I did several searches under topic and author, no results.
Regards,
Not sure why you have orange... default colour is white.

You want these
http://shop.ebay.co.uk/items/_W0QQ_dmptZUKQ5fCarsPartsQ5fVehiclesQ5fCarPartsQ5fSM?_nkw=led+(auto*%2Ccar)+white+dash*&_sacat=0&_fromfsb=&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_odkw=led+(auto*%2Ccar)+white&_osacat=0
You will also need tools for removing radio and something to remove trim.
I've seen the blue LEDs in a G and it looked very strange. The blue gives a kind of futuristic look which doesn't quite match the G's interior. Haven't seen white in action though.
I just replaced mine with normal bulbs. They last pretty long.

Me neither... couldn't really find the right post. I understand they are originally bulbs and not LEDs - I just want to swap the bulbs with like-sized LEDs to achieve a brighter, white finish on the interior. Not such a big fan of everything awash in orange inside the car.
Does anyone happen to know the sizes for all the bulbs in the dash, overhead lights, etc? Would be extremely helpful so I could order everything up before having the dash taken off... thanks!
Many thanks,
Hova.
