Hi-Fi Upgrade ...Braybrooks: Verdict = Don't Go There!
Hi All,
Just went for a full new headunit, (Alpine ida-100 - full ipod ready) and 8 speakers (focal brand -entry level version), plus small subwoofer... and all bits required to get bluetooth phone and music selection through the steering wheel. Went to Braybrooks after much research about who could achieve it all through streering wheel controls. He SEEMED to be the one...
Sound is admittedly 1million times better, but steering wheel controls have proved a massive challenge... in the first visit which went to 8 hours of work...I have only paid half until its all done..not fun as i took the day off and it was supposed to take 4 in total. :x
Experience has been pretty tough to say the least, but Neil appears to be doing his best to get the outcome he committed to.
Ultimately, my view and reccomendation (or not) of his "service" will come down to how he manages the remaining bits... Despite his Merc "expertise" the G seems to be one he is much less familiar with and hence became much more of a challenge.
He is coming down to see me and fix the remaining bits tomorrow. Will fill you in on all the goings on once it all up and running (i hope !)
Cheers,
Ferdi
To be fair to Neil Braybrook, my understanding from other forums none-g related is that MB steering wheel controls are a total minefield, with no consistency of operation method.
Not related, but I got a handsfree phone + CD changer fitted by Braybrookes and have had absolutely no problems with them since: the job also took a lot longer than expectedt: he said it would though, as the G is so well put together, he took his time putting it all back as it should be. I'm happy and didn't want any fancy elecs fitted, as jonnyboy mentioned, the new MB electronics are just so complicated. ph
and the verdict is.....
he came, fixed a few bits, but still needs parts from MB germany before steering wheel can operate it all..he is doing his best..so fingers crossed all the steering will work!
