I remember Maxwell has mentioned that one could get special trip insurance for driving outside the EU... but I have have ask a few insurance companies and the people on the phone don't seem to know at all! How sad!!

So, do anybody know where can I get those insurance policies from? I am planning to go to Odessa, Ukraine over the summer.

Thank you all very much!

At a guess i'd say you'd only get insurance at the borders of those counties. And then only third party most probably.

Anyway search or ask here, a great forum for all travel info.

Even better

Seems insurance is not a legal requirement, go in an old banger and don't worry  and if you knock someone over, keep going.

Another question for you experienced drivers... how far per day do you think it's safe to drive 3200km?

Thanks again!

Re: Special trip insurance

Umm that’s a difficult question.
What vehicle, how many passengers and their ages / resilience (toilet or food stops), roads, traffic etc. all come in to the equation.

I’ve done around 1900km+ in a day. Just myself and wife (no kids which helps no end of course) maintained a high average speed, down side of that is the frequent fuel stops which then actually destroys average speed. Eye watering fuel consumption was the downside

If you are in the G the most I have covered in a day is around 1300km, not a huge amount of fun

Why rush though? Getting there is part of it all

Re: Special trip insurance

hmmm,

Good point about all the variables... it would be very difficult to estimate as you say!

I am not in a rush to get there, but I want to predict when will I arrive so that I could book the hostel/hotel in advance...

Thank you very much for the information!

Don't book a hotel then, find one when you get there. Take a few hotel numbers with you and book up when your 3/4 of the way there or even 4/4 there.
