Dear All,

I'm currently looking at buynig/sourcing a turbo diesel G from Germany that can run on bio and have the following questions (ideally I'm looking for 100% mechanical engines):

1. 290TD

These seem to have been built from the early 90s through to the early 2000s. Could anyone tell me when they started going electronically controlled (if at all).

2. 300TD

Have noticed that some members have these. Is this engine electronically controlled. Again, it seems to have been built across the '90s and I'm just not sure when/if they added electronics to them.

3. 350TD

I've had a brief interchange before on this subject, but could someone tell me exactly what I should be asking with regard to the re-engineered head design and how/when it was fitted. Is there anyway I can tell the new (re-engineered head) apart from the older (design-flawed) one? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks/PH

Re: 3.5td issues

290TDs are very different machines to 300TDs and 350TDs...

The 290 is a 461 and the later two are 463s. Don't know much about them... but I think that is was only offered as a turbo from the late 90s onwards.

The 350TD was the first turbo model. The only year to buy is the last year of production (95 I think?) or one that has the supporting documentation to say that MB carried out the necessary repairs.

The 300TD was from about 96 to 2000. This is arguably one of the best engines put in a G (but I would say that). However it is electronically controlled... but only just... the last year of these Gs still demand a lot of money in Germany - more so than many newer G270s and G400s. Which says something about them...

Check out www.g4rce.net for more info on the models.

Re: 3.5td issues

the crankshaft from the 350 diesel engine is used in the 3.6 Brabus conversion of the 3 litre 103 engine, if the engine is as bad as stated above its probably the best use that this unit can be put too. So if you come across one pm me please.

Re: 3.5td issues

290TD does not run on bio. Has some other type of fuel pump.

I have a 95 G350TD LWB , 225tkm, no mechanical problems for sale. Try to look in the Gs for sale section.
