There are a few posts mentioning the differences between the 461 & 463 chassis. I am curious to know what they are. Does anyone know the details?

Thanks

It depends on what year 461... the older 461s are basically 460s and the newer ones are basically 463s.

Thanks Maxwell,

I was wondering what the differences are. I've seen a couple of mentions that the 461 has softer springs and is slightly taller compared to the 463.

Btw. What happened to the plan to merge the regions on the forum?

Good point... will do that.

As for softer springs or raised height I am not sure that is the case but regardless those are changeable things. The big difference is permanent vs part time 4wd as well as diffs from the older 461s to the newer ones.

Thanks,

So basically, it's a different drivetrain.

The part-time 4wd seems to get better fuel econmy. In Tom Sheppard's book, "Quiet for a Tuesday", he claims 23 to 25 mpg (offroad) with his 461 auto. I don't get that on the motorway at a constant 60 mph :(

I beg to differ ( slightly )
290 Van , Auto, same as Tom's
24.something tank in tank out over umpteen thou miles mixed driving on the highway/motorway, regardless of loading.
Cheers

I've gotten 28mpg on the motorway in my G300 at about 65-70mph.
