Thinking of upgrading the throttle cable with one of these fancy servo units. http://www.sempal.co.uk/acatalog/SPAL_UNIVERSAL_CABLE_OPERATED_CRUISE_CO...

Anyone had any experiences or heard anything about them?

Re: cruise control retrofit

But you’ve got a diesel G :?

Don’t you just need a brick :)

Seriously, I think Roly has retrofitted cruise control so I’m sure some more useful info. Will arrive

Actually actually the only "glitch" in the 290 configuration ( & confirmed by Howard once upon a time ) is the shocking uncomfortable throttle, get a real "crick" in ones ankle.
However I modified mineses very successfully
still miss my cruise control like wot I am used to though

Re: cruise control retrofit

Roly did do it but that was on a w463 where it already had the fittings for cruise. Not sure if that is the case on a w460.

Re: cruise control retrofit

I think I recall Roly offer some advice when I enquired a few years back
Basically I would have need bits offen a wiring loom offen a cruise controlled 290 egnined something, & Not that many Sprinter Vans so equipped back then. A smashed Hymer perhaps? Hens teeth again.
So I forgot about it

Re: cruise control retrofit

The engine does not require any existing fly by wire throttle, the kit consists of a server which sits over the throttle lever on the engine, an electronic accelerator pedal and a cruise control stalk... thus the beauty of this kit.

I'll probably pick this up, will let you know how I get on!

Re: cruise control retrofit

I would certainly like to try before I buy?
No idea how good a match or fit this would be
If I recall our 290 Van is "fly by wire" from the throttle up to a gubbins located immediately below the windscreen at the RHs
then is it a bowden cable to the pump
I would need to check
cheers

Re: cruise control retrofit

I fitted one using the parts off a 124 300D, so quite easy mechanically. You require a sender from the speedo to feed into the ECU. The dash had one fitted on my G so I hooked into that. If you don't have a sender you will need to rig up a sytem on your speedo cable. Check what you actually get in the box prior to buying it.
There are systems around which hold the accelerator in one place. Not a cruise but a hand throttle, almost useless.
