This is number 2939 off the production line which puts it in the first 6 months of production, but is yours older?

Wow, that looks like quite a project. Good luck
Thank you.
mine might be older YKR 517X first registered 22/2/82.
Where do you find the 'magic number'? is it part of the chassis number????
Somewhere in the west of Scotland there should be a couple of lhd G-Wagen Vans with vertically split rear doors that were registered in 1979. I remember seeing them in the Balloch area, near Loch Lomond when they were new. They were privately imported and, I believe, possibly the first G-Wagens in UK. Of course, they might be mouldering heaps in the bottom of someone's garden, or on the bottom of the Loch, by now. It would be interesting to know if they are still "alive".

Hi Helen, it's the last 4 or 5 or 6 digits of your vin number
ie mine ends 02939
mine is 021116
What a coincidence - after a long day today i feel about 2100 and on my next birthday, fast approaching, i will be 21  (and a bit)
and quite a bit more
Now I know that this does not qualify as in the UK but we have a UK imported 280 GE over here in Oz that is 014772 but this is eclipsed by a 230 GE imported from the UAE (and currently sporting a V8 and 463 looks) that is 000529!
These are just the ones I know about.
The earliest officially Australian delivered G that I have recorded is 022081
FWIW

It is good to see all this interest in " ye olde " 460s :D ,
A testament to the build quility is the amount of early 460s that go though German ebay, all for good money .

My G was first registered to a mushroom farm, (owned by a 'fun guy' i'm sure :P ) I'm the 10th owner and 'she' has had 5 different registration numbers, strangely she has always lived here in the south east. I have quite a bit of info about her as I got a report from the DVLA, as when i bought her their was a rumour that she had Royal connections, but I could find no evidence of this. BUT apparently Mercedes did give the Queen a G-wagen in the 80's does anyone know anything about that?
:D not sure where first G is now PFT 267Y beige still have data spec sheet 026362 :)
anyone think we should start a new post on the young'est w460 :?:
I'd like to know who owns the oldest RHD G-Wagen made...

Sorry, can't help there mine's LHD.
I remember the Mercedes dealership in Clapham, north Yorks showing me what they said was the first G wagen in the country so that would give it a ?EC ???A registration number as that was in 82 or 83
:) ?EC ???X :) would be the reg i think unless they had it in the showroom for a couple of years unregisterd , the first we had was on a Y used to be an odd one about on an X

The Autocar mag published on 26 December 1981 a road test of a very early 300GD registered VLL927X so that ought to be a very early RHD G... No idea about VIN number for that one though!
Hi Ian, mine was a 79 demo model at a dealership in Belgium that was imported in Dec 81
