more amps needed
on my 280ge i have front and rear winches fitted the standard alternator is 55amps could do with one with more amps just need to know if anyone has any ideas on were to source one. or if anything fits off a different vehicle
I have the 3l petrol and am pretty sure its got an 85 amp alternator. Don't know if its interchangable though. Anyone else know?
talk to a good auto electrician and ask if your alternator can be uprated
I think someone on here had their alternator rewound to give 125amps, as Prwales says ask a good auto electrician or motor rewind shop. Let us know how you get on.
No good churning out 120amps + and not having batteries to receive it...fit two batteries in parallel to give the extra amps you need.......and are going to put in them......
If you can find a altenator from a 320 cdi that is a 200 amps I dont think it will fit Straight on but I think it will be worth the work there will of couse be somthing with the pully
I run a split charge system 2 optimas red and yellow my alternator which is the standard 55amp one have give up. i was told i would benifit fitting one with more amps.
Damien,
I upgraded my 300GE with a 150Amp alternator from a E430.....it did fit the M103 engine just perfect but I had the change the pulley over.
You M110 engine has a different mounting - that alternator might not work for you.
You don't need to have some special batteries when upgrading to the higher output alternators, but you need to increase the wire size for the B+ (+12V) cable from the alternator to the battery - check the ground cable as well,
Most of all newer vehicle with high output alternators have the B+ (big) cable routed straight to the starter and not first to the battery any longer.
The original 85A on the left and the new 150A alternator on the right
Heavy gauge wire for the winch lock-out switch and a 100A fuse for the 850W electric radiator fan (G55)
Thanks for the advice will go and get that checked out
