My 463 was no problem travelling in the dark on packed snow at 10.30 pm across the north York moors, the snow was coming at us it was a white out roads covered and then the dreaded smell of diesel!! I pulled into the big lay by at Scailing dam and got my windup torch out and lifted the bonnet.
The end fuel leak off pipe number six injector had lost its blanking plug and squirting fuel on to the sound proofing material under the bonnet. I searched the truck for a nail!! nothing then in the glove compartment was a “biro” I took the centre out and pushed the end into the open pipe with the ball pointing up, it fitted snug I started it up and no leaks!! I drove on and 70 miles later the next day replaced the biro with a staple nail a better plug, job done.
G Wagens there great you couldn’t do that with a common rail engine!!!

Excellent bit of make shift repair work, and good work for stopping when you smelt he diesel. Mine had a screw (self tapper) in a length of hose for many months. It may be worth replacing all those little fuel pipes if they are still original. Minimal cost.
Trust the biro was still serviceable afterwards

Re: A cold Snowy breakdown

That's the strange thing I had the injectors away for repair last year and had put new pipes all the way along on but used the old original rubber stopper to blank the pipe off, obviously the old stopper was perished it looked ok, its all dry again just need to clean the bonnet insulation that was soaked in diesel right next to the heater air box.
Yes the biro still worked it was worth mentioning if any one else had the same problem a easy quick fix.
