Re: Just to Say

Well .. after 2 years of respray/rebuild .. I have a booked MOT tomorrow which sounds a little fun (1/2" this morning and nothing now) but doubt it will be an over the bonnet drift tomorrow morning.

So while one is off road.. another is getting there!

Just think of the extra bodywork you might have saved yourself.. 4x4 stop just as poorly as ordinary cars which seems to surprise them every winter up here...

That Discovery you destroyed was probably written off and they went out and bought a nice 3 year old D3 for the price of your rear bumper the next day

Well funny you should say that, I remember chatting to her husband on the day, and he turned up in a MB S class and her other car was a C180. He did comment that while he did not like the current MB off roaders, he did like mine. Rest assured I did give him the GWOA site and said there is always a good buy on the forum!

Who knows what will happen......

Re: Just to Say

I too was dreaming of G this morning whilst walking to work when a chap in an Astra nearly lost it trying to slow down for a bend. This made me realise that my old 460 probably wouldn't have fared any better. Going is a lot easier than stopping! Be careful out there folks.

Re: Just to Say

Many thanks - just glad He is back now!

Well I did not realise that the Bush Guard is made up of differing components.

The reason why it has taken so long is that they said the Chrome bit would be delivered first Jan, then mid feb, then end of feb etc etc. In the end I went down and had a chat and we agreed that they would put the old chrome with the new parts , then swap it around when it is delivered!

I get the Truck back, they don;t have it hanging around, the insurance don;t fork out for the hire car - everyone is happy!

The Chrome bit - which is causing the problem as that's the bit on back order
The Light Guards
The Uprights
and
The Fixings

They were saying a complete unit works out to be about £1,500!

Speaking to the Body Shop, they were amazed that it was not sold as a complete unit, however once the back order part is ready they will fit it for me.

To tell the truth, apart from a few wear and tear scratch there is nothing wrong, so anyone who wants it PM me - Usual price I believe is £400

The new rear wheel disk now has a sticker as opposed to the rubberised insert, so it looks a bit naff (but its what MB now use on G's apparently - they are seeing if they can change that, and I have kept the old one, just in case.

Re: Just to Say

Not true on the rear cover. I had mine changed in my repair and its the same as before with the rubber insert. Plus the 2009 cars I saw in Dubai all were the same. They had to wait about 2+ months for mine to come through but I put pressure on and eventually they got it.

In total it took about 3months to get my car back and all the time I had the Range Rover. Made me realise just how good the G is! A few years back a Ferrari I had at the time had a minor front knock. It took more than 6 months to get the car back because they couldnt source a small panel at the front (in the end I sourced it for them!). Anyway all that time I had a brand new 911 targa and the final bill for the car hire was £52K! The damage was inly about £4K! Crazy stuff.

Re: Just to Say

Good to see you have the V8 back, complete with new bits and colour-coding, I reckon a new bumper improves the front end quite a bit mainly due to the finish.
Hope you kept all the old pieces...there's a market for them on here you know :p Is the old wheel cover band available for sale?

The lock was very rusty - however before they get rid of the parts, let me know who is interested and I will ask what they would want for them (I kept the wheel disk and got it for free)

What can not be salvaged is the bumpers front an rear

Re: Just to Say

glad you finally got it. the colour coding looks good.

and yes i agree - every new G i have seen had a rubber insert not a sticker on spare.

bumpers may be trashed but the bumper caps sell for a fair bit...

Re: Just to Say

The lock is replaceable I believe (with some fiddling)...but more importantly what size is your spare tyre? As the bands come in slightly different sizes depending on the tyres fitted.
Thanks!

Re: Just to Say

haha excuse my..inquisitiveness :p while I go take some measurements and make some calculations...

According to the tyre calculator
http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp
there's about a 5 inch difference in circumference, 2 inches in diameter..shame! Mine are 255/65/R16 (I think).
