Re: Salisbury Plain drive - Sunday 8th Marc

Are you expecting only gwoa members or some local guys too, only as you haven't had much response in here so far, would hate to see you disappointed, only I believe we are doing some lanes in Kent which will take up the usual 'guys' that attend these days out, you know who you are. Next time on the plains for us will be in the summer if you want to wait until then Andy ?

Re: Salisbury Plain drive - Sunday 8th March

I was not planning on it being too open. There was some pm discussion about a drive and I worked out a route that should be interesting.
If there are only a few of us, then I don't mind myself.

Regards and happy driving

Would certainly be up for that if it's ok, G is fully functioning and the plain is fun (survived last time).

Re: Salisbury Plain drive - Sunday 8th March

We can still go ahead with this, even though there may not be many of us.

I hope to get confirmation later today that there are no military activities planned on the proposed route, but we can make changes and still have a good drive - one good thing about the plain is it is large with lots of places to go.

We should meet at Solstice Park on the A303 east of Amesbury at 10:00 - there is a helicopter art sculpture that makes a good landmark, also a filling station and fast food it needed.

If anybody wants details of the route in advance, please email me (andrew@griffin.org) and I will send it to you.

Have to bow out of this one now, Got to drive to London on Friday to deliver a car, disassemble my POS Disco (been broken down in London for 2 weeks and although I was doing an excellent job of ignoring the problem, I guess I have to fix it) on Saturday (to establish why the turbo has blown) and will eventually get a lift back sometime. :(

This is going ahead, meeting at Solstice Park on A303 at Amesbury, 10 a.m. Sunday 8th March.
The route as planned is about 35 miles, though there may have to be some last minute revisions due to military exercises.
Weather forecast is sunny periods with rain showers and gusty winds.

At the moment, only two vehicles are confirmed, but all are welcome

OMG don't get me started - read the small print and they will HAMMER me for costs if it gets broken. (I understand the guy who runs it is a bit of a meanie and will extract his 'pound of flesh' if I even damage this current one ever so slightly!) .

I mean, they even have a G Wagen on their books, and will he lend it out - huh, no way!

Spider1V - ML 420, 'it very nice!'

Hmmm this current ML is rather good - I'll give you that. (its a 420 and rather fast! ). But no, I have had three ML's and, well to be frank there are so many of them around here, that's why I got a G!

How did it go? Would have loved to have come along but a) busy and b) G-less. Not for long though so if there's a next time, count me in.

Re: Salisbury Plain drive - Sunday 8th Marc

Great News - everybody that said they would come on the drive turned up and completed the route
Sadly, there were only two of us, but we had a good drive.

Picture taken at SU 07247 49126, just after driving Honeydown Bottom, one of the impact zones on Larkhill ranges. (but I didn't tell John that until after!!)

He couldn't figure our why mine was so much muddier than his - mainly down to bigger, more agressive tyres.

Re: Salisbury Plain drive - Sunday 8th Marc

To all those unable to attend the 8th March Salisbury Plain Drive you missed a wonderfull wonderfull day out!

Scenery to do justice to "Out of Africa" at one point then switching to "Saving Private Ryan".

We dodged the Warrior armoured APC's and were probably in the gunsights of numerous Apatche Attack Helicopters hovering in the woods.

Andrew arranged a terrific route whlst the elemets brought us bright sunshine, rain, wet snow and high winds.

Andrew needs some mudflaps for those aggresive tyres then he too can have a (relitivly) clean G like mine.

Andrew many many thanks.

I look forward to the next oppertunity to cross the Larkhill live firing impact area.
