I have this constant clang-clang or trakk-trakk noise coming from the sppedometer specially in the mornings and after a while it gets quieter.
Has anyone experienced anything similar ? G is a 1991 300 gel.

Re: speedometer noisy

Probably the speedo cable. You could try oiling it from behind the speedo and see whether that helps.

Re: speedometer noisy

Hi most probably a dry speedo cable..it is a bit labour intensive to rectify.remove the instrument cluster.... unscrew the cable at both ends wash the dead lubricant out with WD 40 from the top end and then drizzle light lube oil into the sheath from the top rotating the drive cable to allow the oil to pass all the way down.another way is to withdraw the cable assembly from the G' remove the inner drive cable from the sheath clean and flush the outer sheath and the drive cable then lube and replace......silence and no erratic indication for another 50.000miles.....

Re: speedometer noisy

Yes! worn wheels /teeth probably caused by the cable being tight from old hardened lubricant

Re: speedometer noisy

if you have teeth missing in the unit at the gearbox end of the cable you will require a new unit.......otherwise service the cable as above ..if the cable is frayed you will require a new cable......
